Name changer
-
So, we are about to begin a big image process and I’m setting up my test. I did install the Fog service with the intent of using the name changer and AD computer add. On my first test it does not seem to work. i pasted below the the Fog log from the client. Seems the AD joined because I didn’t do a good job of getting the password in. That I can fix. The name changer is huge. FYi, I set my unattend.xml not to name the computer. Is that wrong? Thanks in advance to all who post.
C:\Fog.log from the client:

When I am doing an unattended xml I either set the computer not to be named or tell it to generate a random name since it will change later. Have you copied the NetDom file to c:, c:\windows, and c:\windows\system32? My next question would be did you encrypt your password for AD in the FOG Web GUI under Fog Settings?
-
To answer your questions in order: no, no,no, I tried, but fogcrypt keeps crashing. I do get the output file, but I think the contents are garbage. I do set my unattend not to name the computer and am working to resolve fogcrypt. I’ll toss in the netdom and retest. Thanks for the reply.
-
Putting netdom in those locations will fix one issue. Once you get fogcrypt to work that should fix the remainder and they should rename after that. Can you post the output of the file? The password should look something like this f3815ea656cbfdcb06829ce62067791d
-
Here is the output: *********** But, if you look in the log pasted above there is a password error:
(5/13/2013 12:29 PM FOG::HostnameChanger Domain Error! (‘Wrong Password’ Code: 1323)
-
Unless you have recompiled your client and fogcrypt packages to use a custom string, don’t post your encrypted AD passwords on the forums.
My AD setup is: domain: mydomain.com, username: domain\username, then password (encrypted with FogCrypt).
-
Do you have the username as domain\user? or just user?
Chad - I changed my password so that it simulated a correct one but was not mine.
-
domain\username
I could not get it to work otherwise. I don’t know if it’s a problem with FOG, or something specific to my DNS/NetBIOS/etc setup.
-
Chad as a side note to your statement. I have NetBios blocked on our domain and it still works.
