i setup fog per instructions for an isolated network. can ping the server but when i try to boot in pxe it just sits at the dhcp then times out. tried with two different hp laptops with no success. the only thing i can find in the file system relating to dhcp3 in a folder at /ect/dhcp3. no file in /ect/init.d. how can i check if the dhcp is running correctly? im new to linux. oh yeah running on ubuntu 11.10.

Do these laptops get DHCP just fine on another network? Do any other computers get DHCP fine on your isolated network? Did you tell fog to configure DHCP when you installed it?

yes the laptops get dhcp from my router connected to the internet. i plug the switch to the router and connect a laptop to the switch and laptop connects fine. it seems that the dhcp is not running even though i selected the option on the fog install. how do i check if the dhcp service running in ubuntu 11.10?

usually a
ps ax | grep dhcp
will tell you. You can also check your syslog to see if dhcp is having problems starting due to a configuration error. I believe in 11.04 it’s /etc/default/dhcp… something.
