I just installed a new server with 1.5.9 version, did the configuration and it works fine. However there’s something kinda rare, at the time a host enter in the pxe menu, it goes on a black screen with the titles but I have no interaction with the menu itself. I mean the menu isn’t displayed on the normal way with white background and FogProject Image below.
I saw a thread on some forum where somebody said it is caused because of the misscompatibility with UEFI boot on devices, is that right? There’s any way to fix that isue.

@Ferras Please post some more details like make&model of the device as well as a picture of the menu on screen.

Does the menu work fine on other devices?

You can try compiling the latest iPXE version to see if that may fix the issue: https://docs.fogproject.org/en/latest/reference/compile_ipxe_binaries.html

Web GUI issue? Please check apache error (debian/ubuntu: /var/log/apache2/error.log, centos/fedora/rhel: /var/log/httpd/error_log) and php-fpm log (/var/log/php*-fpm.log)

@sebastian-roth Hi there, thanks for the reply!

I followed up the procedure to recompile the iPXE, but got no different results.

I did use another computer for the test and as it seems on the following picture, when the Legacy Bios mode is used, the menu displays as it has to. (On the right side )

The motherboard of the computer at the top is a Gigabyte B450M DS3H V2

I think it’s not really a big problem, however, not having an identifier above the menu could cause some wrong selection.

@ferras Do you mean your keyboard isn’t working, or simply that the image isn’t available?

UEFI is still not a full on “standard” in the context of NICs yet and the interactions with displays would vary on many different things.

If the UEFI driver cannot display the screen image, you’ll be presented with the ugly black and white screen but still have the same level of operations you should expect. If the keyboard is not accessible during this phase maybe make sure the USB Legacy is enabled in the bios?

@tom-elliott As you see on my last post the screen of the desktop doesn´t shows as it does on the laptop i used for a second test. I refer to that behaviour.

However, when trying with a third computer, the menu was displayed correctly, so I assume it could be some bios setting which I will review in detail.

Additionally, I would like to ask about the preparation of an image to apply to some of my computers, when restoring the image I realize that the Windows UUID of the master device is cloned in the other computers as well, causing me to not be able to add them to my company’s domain controller. I just dont figure out how to correct this issue.

Could you please guide me trough a solution to this?

@ferras said in FOG PXE menu on black screen:

As Tom said some firmware is not playing with the “standards” and so you end up with the ugly black and white menu screen. There is not much we can do. Feel free to report this to the iPXE project.
