FOG identify new host as registered even though it's not.
I just wanted to say this forum have been very helpful so far and helped me troubleshoot issues that I’ve ran into. Unfortunately, I’m unable to find other post with this issue so far so this would be my first post.
So before capturing an Image, I would do full registration of a host then I will see the host being created in FOG dashboard under Host. I would do similar thing for other models of laptops as well.
The issue that I have been having is, when I connect a new device and boot to iPXE, It will tell me that it’s already registered under a hostname that was previously registered with a similar model. So for example, I registered a Dell 5570 and I rename it “PC-1” in the FOG dashboard, then capture the image, then I connect a new Dell 5570 later to redeploy the image, in the iPXE menu it’ll tell me that the new device is registered as “PC-1” even though it’s a new laptop and I haven’t registered it.
Has anyone ran into this issue before and is there a way I can make it where it’ll create a new host every time I register a new one?
Also if this helps, I always sysprep and generalized the system before I captured it.
Thank you in advanced!
@stealthlegend Ok I will look into this further. But to your point, I do see how this can be beneficial for bulk imaging.
@brian-mainake sounds like he is on the right track. I have run into this before while imaging tablets with an ethernet adapter, although it worked out in my favor since i could mass produce tablets with images without registering each one since it thought each one was already registered due to the adapter.
@sebastian-roth I see, this is interesting and yes you are correct. I do use an ethernet adapter.
Unfortunately, the Mac Passthrough have been always enabled. So perhaps the adapter is not supported?
@brian-mainake Seems like the Dell 5570 does not have it’s own network/LAN chip included. I suppose you use some kind of external USB network adapter, right?
FOG does not use some kind of internal UUID to distinguish one host from another but simply uses the MAC address.
Please see if you are able to enable MAC passthrough in the UEFI setup settings of this device.
@tatanas I’m going to check this again to make sure but I do believe its different because all device should have different mac address and also i remember its asking me to approve mac addresses under the same host in the FOG dashboard under Host.
Is the mac address different ? It seems both of them have the same.
