Restore BIOS W10 image onto UEFI machine
First, why is there so little content on the FOG wiki FAQ page?
I think my question would be a good candidate for going on the FAQ page. If I have a sysprepped Windows 10 image took from a BIOS VM or physical machine, can I restore such an image onto a UEFI machine or can you only install BIOS images onto other BIOS machines?
Yeah that’s what I expected. Thanks for the quick reply!
@danboid Yeah, that is a problem. We need people to support keeping the documentation current and relevant.
To your question, its really not a FOG related issue. FOG doesn’t care about the target OS. It only really moves data from here to there and to ensure what it moved was accurate and complete.
With that said, officially you can only deploy an image captured from a bios computer to a bios computer. The same goes for uefi (UEFI->UEFI). The reason is the disk structure is different between the two different firmware platforms. BIOS uses MBR (disk 0, partition 0, sector 0 on disk) to get booted and uefi uses a EFI boot partition.
