@kevinnew22 Do you have a private VPN between the cloud FOG server and the remote locations or do you want to use public IP addresses for your configuration?

Please help us build the FOG community with everyone involved. It's not just about coding - way more we need people to test things, update documentation and most importantly work on uniting the community of people enjoying and working on FOG!

The problem is that FOG was never intended to have direct access from the internet. The FOG Server itself is not protected against remote attacks because it was designed to work from inside your network. So you must use a site to site VPN to protect the FOG server and the traffic going into and coming out of the FOG server.

You can have a master FOG server in the cloud with remote storage nodes at each remote location. There is some restrictions in this method that you need to be aware of. These restrictions are the same if the FOG server is in the cloud or at your HQ.

            1. The communications between the fog server, storage nodes and fog client service (if you have installed on the client computers) needs to be protected from remote attack.
            2. Only the master FOG server can capture images. The storage nodes at each remote location are deploy only.
            3. The storage nodes (deploy only FOG servers) and fog client software (running on the user’s computers) requires 100% master FOG server communications to work.
            4. Images created (captured) on the master FOG server will automatically replicate to the storage nodes at the remote locations.
            5. Computers that PXE boot will load files from the local storage node but must talk to the master FOG server in the cloud to get booting instructions.

If you can agree with the recommendations above the method to use a master FOG server and remote storage nodes will work for both master fog server in the cloud or at your HQ. 100% communications between the master FOG server and storage nodes are a requirement that must be followed.

Please help us build the FOG community with everyone involved. It's not just about coding - way more we need people to test things, update documentation and most importantly work on uniting the community of people enjoying and working on FOG!
