Dell Latitude 5510 Won't Boot from Hard Drive After Imagine through UEFI
-
At first we had issues getting it to boot but we got that figured out as the Latitude 5510 has no legacy option in bios. Once we got it booted into Fog and we were able to get the Image pushed to it, it would reboot and Bios would see that there is a M.2 SSD in it but it is like it can’t find the boot file at all on the partitions of the drive. We can’t boot into windows after Imaging the Dell Latitude 5510. Any help would be appreciated.
Yes we are fully updated and I have tried different kernels just as a test. We have been successful with other computers that do run Legacy mode but we haven’t had to try anything else that runs in UEFI.

@lcshelite It almost appears that you might have pushed a BIOS based image to a uefi based computer. If a uefi computer sees boot media that has the uefi boot partition on it, the uefi firmware should allow you to select it as a bootable device. If that bootable disk happens to be a bios formatted boot media then uefi will ignore that disk.
To say it another way, a bios based captured image can only be deployed to a bios based target computer. The same holds true for uefi to uefi. You can not mix disk formats between systems.

@george1421 Thanks, I have been using WDS for so long I didn’t even think of that! I totally forgot this does a disk clone format so whatever was on the disk before will be on the new one. Simple fix. I will go try this now!

Yes that is really the difference between WDS/MDT and FOG. Where MDT does (dynamic) file based cloning and FOG does block layer cloning. MDT takes about 1.5 hours to image a single computer and FOG takes about 4 minutes to image a computer. There is no better technology over the other, it all depends on what the right fit is for the company.
If you are trying to image as many computers as fast as you can then use FOG. If you need a dynamically built image (i.e. able to change the image structure based on external variables) use MDS/WDS.
