Dell 5080 won't image
-
When trying to image a Dell OptiPlex 5080 I can get to the Fog menu but once selecting an option, it can’t find a NIC. I launched debug from the menu and ran ipconfig and there were no interfaces. I tried a USB to Ethernet but I can’t get to Fog menu. I tried both the onboard NIC and the USB to Ethernet and I could get to the Fog menu, but when FOS can’t bring the USB interface up.

FOG Configuration -> Kernel Update
Update the kernel to 5.6.18 download both the 32 bit and 64 bit kernels then pxe boot it again.
-
How does one do this?
-
In the FOG Web UI -> FOG Configuration -> Kernel Update
You should see a series of tiles with the kernel names on it. Just click on the tiles for 5.6.18 64 bit and 32 bit.

@george1421 Yep. Right as you responded I realized you told me in your original post. Sorry about that!
-
After changing the RAID settings to AHCI I was able to deploy an image!
-
@jhol That would have been the next check. You need the newer kernel with the latest hardware late 2019 and 2020 models. The kernel fixed the nic issue and then updating the disk controller to ahci mode fixed the disk invisibility issue. You should be good to go now.

@george1421 Thanks for the help and quick responses!
I’m not sure how to mark a question as solved if I’m able to.
