This is on a 2nd gen thinkpad X1 yoga in UEFI boot mode.

      We’re running Fog 1.5.2 on ubuntu 16.04, bzImage Version: 4.16.6 bzImage32 Version: 4.15.2.

I used the instructions at https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/6350/usb-boot-uefi-client-into-fog-menu-easy-way to create a boot usb using the ipxe.efi bootfile.

I’m using an RTL8153 usb ethernet adapter to connect to the network.

Our dhcp is being issued by a cisco switch so I couldn’t implement the instructions on https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/BIOS_and_UEFI_Co-Existence.

I can get to the fog pxe menu and and select different options but whenever I select one it goes to init.xz: ok and then goes to a black screen.

I tried the same thing with a Thinkpad T440 which has a built in ethernet port and it got these errors, but the registration completed.

I’ve seen a bunch of threads for this issue but none with resolutions. Hopefully the additional detail will help. If there’s any more info I can provide please ask.

Would you be willing to try something to see if we can boot FOS from a usb drive? (not the instructions you linked)

@george1421 I did a test capture and deploy and both worked fine. The menu that comes up has a Fog Image Deploy/Capture option but it doesn’t display the list of images the way the pxe menu does. Is that something I can change?

Unfortunately that is one of the caveats of booting this way. You loose the dynamics that iPXE provides.

But booting FOS via USB does tell us that there is nothing wrong with the kernel or the inits. It appears to be the handoff between iPXE and FOS, or you have flaky firmware on that yoga.

Has the firmware been updated to the latest release on the yoga?
