Hey folks,
We have been using FOG for 3 or 4 years now. Coming up with weird error when trying image school machines this summer.
Still running XP on machines, and running FOG 0.32 on Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS server. The server was upgraded from 0.28 this past year, but we didn’t image anything with it until now.
I also ave been using the same hostnamechange dll file that has never failed in the past.
The PCs will not change their hostname. The log is below. When I made these images I used the client taken off the 0.32 server (we are still using 0.28 at a different school, I don’t know if you can mix and match these things).
I even tried ‘backreving’ the client version on the machine, still getting the error (the log is from the client running 0.28 to the 0.32 server). I also re-replaced the hostnamechange.dll file after the downgrade.
I am going to try the other school still running 0.28 on everything to see if that has problems.
Thanks for any help on this…

I’m thinking you need to make sure the FOG client running on the clients of the FOG 0.32 server are using the client from the FOG 0.32 server. Also, use the FOGCrypt from the 0.32 server to re-encrypt your password for AD joining and update your hosts.
This is all assuming you have not recompiled the HostNameChanger.dll to use a different passkey for encrypting your AD passwords.

This can be closed out.
Ended up being that at the same time we were doing our imaging, we had just set up new AD servers on VM. New VM AD servers did not have the correct user/password set up on them.
Not sure why you need AD authentication to change the local machine name, but at this point, I’m not really concerned. It is working!!
Thanks everyone.

The hostnamechanger performs double duty. It renames the client and joins it to the domain if requested. Also, if a host is a member of the domain and you change the host record, the hostnamechange has to deal with AD to change the host name.
