Windows 10 Default Programs

Hello,

I am currently running FOG Version 1.4.4 and an using it to deploy Windows 10 to Target Machines. I was wondering if there is a way either with SYSPREP or possible a snapin script I can use to set default programs for users, as well as unpin programs from the start menu as this confuses users. I am able to do this for the local administrator account, but when a user logs in for the first time, and it downloads their user profile from the server it resets the default programs, and pins everything to the start menu. Any help?

Somethings can be done via GPO and others with a bit of master image magic. None are related to FOG imaging or can be managed by FOG.

There are ways to define a standard start menu by exporting a sample one from a master image and then importing it into the target system. You will need to google for the instructions since its outside the scope of FOG.

I unpinned all items on the Start Menu on the Administrator account prior to sysprep. After sysprep, all new users have an empty Start page.

I also deprovisioned many unwanted apps (Enterprise edition required).

As for setting defaults, I set VLC to the default media player. I believe this setting persisted through sysprep. The browser will always default to Edge unless you find some hackery to get around it.

I remember seeing something in PowerShell about exporting/importing file associations. May be able to create a script that will run on first login to set default apps.

Interesting my machine is sysprepped as well and I unpinned everything from the start menu before uploading my image. After deploying to a target machine, every time a new user logs in all the apps are pinned to start as well as the task bar… It seems to be every time a new user profile is downloaded from our server.
