Hi friends,

we bought a group of machines(same model, type and characteristics), but half of then came with W7 and the other with XP, I want to change all them to XP, I have tried clonning Xp to XP and works fine, but when i try to pass image from XP to W7 installed machine it simply doesn’t work.

I think problem is about hard disk distribution.

      My question is,

      • Is ti possible to generate a script to erase totally the W7disk and then deploy automatically XP image??

      Any ideas please

Where does it fail? Does it deploy successfully but not boot, or does it fail during the deploy. If it deploys but won’t boot, you might try to AHCI settings in the bios on the Win7 machines. More than likely, it is set for Win7, but not for WinXP.

If it fails during the deploy, you might try to schedule a Fast Disk Wipe task, then a deploy of the WinXP image and see if that helps. Test it on one machine, and if it works, group the remaining Win7 machines together and run a fast wipe task, then deploy.

If none of that works, we’ll continue to dig to see if we can find the issue.

I would also suggest checking this first.

I know when I down graded a 2 new Dells that shipped with Win7 to XP I had to mess with the AHCI settings to get XP to boot, so I too would agree that you might want to try that as well. After I downgraded the one, I uploaded that image and then deployed it to the second, but it wouldn’t boot. I then remembered about the BIOS change and then it worked.

You either need to change the bios settings to ACHI (from raid most likely) or you need to include the needed mass storage drivers (F6 during setup boot).

you can also slipstream them into your installation cd / dvd using an application like driverpacks base - http://driverpacks.net/book/export/html/359

I have to ask, why would you want to go to XP? Application compatibility?
