How do I change capture defaults?
-
Capture: When you have a physical or virtual box configured the way you want, and want to create a copy of it. This involves FOG taking a copy from that box and putting the copy onto the FOG Server for later use. You are “Capturing” the image. Capture can only be initiated from the web interface.
Deploy: When you have an image stored on the FOG Server and you want to push it out, or deploy, to physical or virtual boxes elsewhere. You are “Deploying” the image out to systems. Deploy can be initiated from the web interface or the boot menu.
You’d adjust the image as you like by locating it in Image Management, clicking on it, and making your changes.

When I create a new capture task, I want the default options to be set to the options we always use instead of what’s pre-selected. Can they be changed?
-
@jpmfresno I don’t think the defaults can be changed at present. That said, it’s not hard to just set these boxes as needed when you make an image. You might post in the Feature Requests area about it, and the devs will give their thoughts.

Yes, i agree. Its not hard at all to change the options every time we create a capture. I am writing some basic instructions for users on my team who will also be working with the FOG server and it would be nice to have as few steps as possible. We use this system in a very limited way…we only capture images on about 20 of our client PCs that are custom configurations so that in the event of a failure we can quickly restore. I’ve customized other areas like the ipxe boot menu to streamline it to just 2 options…I was hoping the capture tast defaults could be changed.

Okay…I guess I read the “Schedule instant deployment” in the capture task as capture on next ipxe boot. Are you saying the option is actually instantly deploy the image to some host immediately after its captured? I would have expected more options to follow that. Im a bit confused on this still.

@jpmfresno Instant deployment I believe sends an already captured image to the host.
-
That just doesn’t make sense to me. Why then is that in the capture not deployment task?
-
Perhaps it is because they use the same menu for both types of tasks…it just doesn’t make sense in the context of capture…does that option do anything in the capture task?

I honestly don’t remember where it is or what’s around it. Can you post a screenshot?

@jpmfresno Ah. I see what you mean now. Hmm… maybe @Tom-Elliott can make it so it says “instant Capture” and “Delayed Capture” and “Cron-style Capture” for the capture.
-
Or are those sub-options to the “Schedule task as a debug task” as they are radio buttons instead of boxes? Hopefully Tom will have some input.

Fantastic!
