FOG Server GUI disk info not the same as Gparted disk info

My fog server does not seem to get updated or synchronized on its total disk capacity after extending the capacity from 183GB to 250GB using Gparted LiveCD. .Is there anything I can do do get it updated on the Web console or on the Ubuntu’s filesystem as well? I am a noob in the world of Linux-based machines so please bear with me.

Thanks for your help guys, great stuff. I was able to increase my disk size the way I want it too.

I assume you want to expand your disk because the images you have presently on your fog server, you want to keep. I also assume this server is virtualized, since you only have one disk listed in gparted. I’d first recommend snapshotting this server if you’ve not done so. You might think about copying the images directory to somewhere for safety also.

I think you can probably start in that article at the step where they are extending root’s logical volume with all available free space.

I don’t think he want to expand the disk, hes i using for his missing 60GB. Free on partition 75gb (look at the screenshots) and FOG Webif is telling only ~14GB free.

@x23piracy The operating system isn’t showing a 250GB disk, it’s showing a 183.7GB disk. I think the logical root volume hasn’t been expanded into the free space available in the LVM partition yet.

Thanks for the reply Wayne. Unfortunately, the Free space that I was trying to extend to was already done by booting to a GParted LiveCD and expanded from there. What I am a little bit confused about is why the OS partition does not recognize the new partition size of 250GB. It still displays the old size of 183GB and I’ve got like 175GB worth of images that I do not want to be removed.

I do not want to reinstall the whole FOG server again, if possible as it took me quite a while to do it and move the images back. Is there a way for me to combine the LV size for my root and swap_1? Is it possible? If yes, how do I do it? Could the swap_1 be the reason why my main disk size is still showing as the old disk size?

You are correct in saying that this is a virtualized Fog server with just one disk. I also have snapshots running off it at the moment.

Seeing as you increased the size of the disk, did you run through the information @Wayne-Workman provided in his first post? The http://www.geoffstratton.com/expand-hard-disk-ubuntu-lvm portion of it.

Expanding a partition and making a system recognize the new size are two totally different things.

While I’m sure GParted has utilities available to allow it to expand and make the LVM recognize the new size, I’m fairly sure this is the portion you’re missing.

Please read through the link and pay particular close attention to the last two portions of the page.

Based on the second set of pictures you provided, it seems to me you created the partition to read that new data as Swap space. It may, as a last resort, be simpler to start fresh though I do understand the hesitation.

I might try these steps to move the swap into usable root space:

swapoff -v /dev/ubuntu-vg/swap_1
lvm lvremove /dev/ubuntu-vg/swap_1

Edit the /etc/fstab file and look to see that the swap space from the LVM is removed.

Then run though the information within the link @Wayne-Workman provided.

If these steps do not work, I’d recommend thinking about reinstalling as it will likely lead to a more successful end point for you.
