MultiCast
-
There’s a multicast wait time defined in FOG Settings, I think the default is 10 minutes. That’s how long all hosts in the multicast task wait for all other hosts to be ready. You could just be seeing the wait time, or there could be a problem. Try waiting 10 minutes, or decreasing the wait time to something lower (like 2 minutes).
Is the FOG Server and the target hosts on the same broadcast domain?

Hello Wayne
Yes both Fog Server and host target are on the same domain
Before sending multicast did decrease the wait time to 3 minutes
Still getting the same result -
@Gary-Kulovics Ok then. We need to troubleshoot further.
We need the multicast logs, they are here:
Web Interface -> FOG Configuration -> Log Viewer -> Multicast log
They will have timestamps. If you can’t find the logs of the try, just try to multicast again and some logs should appear. Be sure to wait longer than the wait time you set. Then copy/paste to here please. There’s a manual test that you can do relatively easily to test multicast functionality. It’s in this wiki article, along with other troubleshooting that you should read through:
https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Troubleshoot_Downloading_-_MulticastAlso, what OS is fog running on?

@Gary-Kulovics Just to clarify the same broadcast domain, the clients are behind the same router as the server itself. Also wondering what version you’re running…I’m currently running SVN 8525 and can verify that multicast is working with node at location and server behind different routers, but Ip forwarding has been setup to allow the multicast broadcast. So in short if they aren’t seperated by routers it should be working on 8525 at the least.

@Hanz
Hi Hanz

SVN Revision: 5908
Yes the Fog server is on the same switch as the 2 client PC
Also in the Fog Multicast logs it says that there is NO Task Running
but there is a atsk running so not sure what I am missing -
@Gary-Kulovics Did you do any troubleshooting from the link I posted?
-
@Wayne-Workman Yes I did and still the same problem
https://forums.fogproject.org/uploads/files/1432805920932-multicast.png
and it still stops here

Sorry for not responding sooner.
Please turn off any firewall you have on the fog server (
sudo ufw stop
orsystemctl stop firewalld
) and try again. Clear the multicast tables per the troubleshooting guide and then restartFOGMulticastManager
with eitherservice restart FOGMulticastService
orsystemctl restart FOGMulticastManager
and try again. If you haven’t, please go through the troubleshooting guide posted earlier. If you’re still having problems, I can help around 4:30 PM CST via Team Viewer, please send me a message via the forums here.
