      Hi,
      Running FOG 7492 on CentOS.

I am currently looking at imaging some of our Inspiron 13 laptops by booting them to USB.

I have followed the instructions here: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=USB_Bootable_Media

Unfortunately the laptop is not booting and I fear it may be that I do not have the correct drivers within the bootable media.

The Inspirons have Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 network cards, could any point me in the right direction of how to add these in?

Much appreciated as always guys, let me know if you need anymore info.

      Thanks,
      Tom

Those instructions are intended to allow devices to pxe boot via usb boot for those systems that have a broken on board pxe rom or you can modify your dhcp environment to support pxe booting.

Second neither iPXE or the FOS engine (the linux OS that does the imaging) support wireless imaging. So you will need to use a usb ethernet adapter. There are dell supported network adapters that support PXE booting. If you get one of those you can use the built in PXE rom to boot the Inspirons. If I remember correctly the Dell usb ethernet adapter were about $40USD.

If you have another non-Dell supported usb ethernet adapter you can still use the instructions in the link to create a usb boot drive, because iPXE and FOS do support many usb ethernet adapters.

I believe this is the network adapter you need to pxe boot that inspiron. http://accessories.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=443-BBBD

I did a quick check of the forum and Psycholiquid had success PXE booting an Inspiron 12 @Psycholiquid could you provide any insight on your experiences?

I now get the option for a nic usb boot, however when I boot into it I am presented with this screen that just blinks and hangs.

Can you identify what I am missing?

Hi, apologies the bios on the laptop needed flashing to allow the adapter to function. We now have Inspiron’s booting to the fog menu - what a pretty sight!

Thank you for your guidance, brilliant as always.

                    Tom
