Stuck on FOG cirtual appliance setup

I was following the steps here after downloading the steps from sourceforge and I got stuck at the end of step 11. It said "Press enter to acknowledge this message then it just sat at cmd prompt with this line root@FOGServer:~#
Not sure what to do next.

That wiki page is pretty old. We may even should consider deleting it.
If you’re DHCP is setup, the only thing left to do is just setup FOG. I’d recommend going with FOG Trunk at this point, we have a few tutorials that will walk you through it in the wiki. The CentOS 7 is the best bet for stability - we don’t have a updated Ubuntu tutorial at the moment but you can still go with it if you like.

so there’s no gui in the appliance? I did choose the ubuntu option but now its just sitting there at the command prompt and I am not familiar with Linux. I guess I should create a new Ubuntu VM and start the FOG setup from there?

@pstoric There’s a web GUI. if you have a GUI or not on the base OS by default depends on what distribution of linux you install. For example, Ubuntu server doesn’t come with a GUI by default but Ubuntu workstation does. Both work fine, but of course server distros are more lean.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to nuke and re-pave. I started over and over as well when I was just getting going. Overtime you learn to fix things instead of nuking and paving

Thanks. Just downloaded Ubuntu 14.04.4 and I’ll start fresh. Can you provide me a link to the newest wiki for that version? Thanks for the help!! I tried getting a FOG server setup once previously and I was able to get it up and running but could not capture any images. Trying to get it up and running this time around as I can see it being very usefuly at one of my larger clients.

@pstoric There isn’t one I’d recommend, actually… But if you use FOG Trunk (which I do recommend), then there isn’t much in the way of configuration on Ubuntu.

https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Upgrade_to_trunkI setup FOG Trunk on Ubuntu Server last weekend, it was a cakewalk. I literally didn’t need to do anything but install Ubuntu, and then follow the exact instructions in the Upgrade To Trunk wiki article - and fog was ready to go.
Of course, you’ll still need to either adjust your existing DHCP or let FOG run DHCP (which means turning off existing DHCP). There are articles in the wiki on this.

@Wayne-Workman Thanks. I’ve spun u[ an Ubuntu 1404 desktop Version already. Going to use this as a guide but I won’t be back on-site at that location until next week so I’ll continue with the setup then. The goal is to get it up and running, then import it into our EXi server

@pstoric That guide is for fog 1.0.0, there have been vast changes since then.
Installation is not hard - you follow the instructions in the “Upgrade to trunk” article, and the installer literally walks you through everything. That’s all you have to do.

@pstoric The installer defaults to the (probably) correct choice. Debian would be correct if your installing on Ubuntu. And this choice is not your preference, it’s telling the installer how to interact with the system.
