Newbie Question Relating to Fog and Dual Boot Setups

Hi guys,

I’m looking for an open source imaging and backup solution as I move away from my Microsoft dependence over to Linux.

I am about to setup a dual boot system on a new computer (still use Windows for games but I will be spending the bulk of my time in Linux)

My question is this;

Can I image my Windows partitions on the same machine from within Linux? If so, how would I go about this?

Yes you can dual boot, but no FOG will not work how you want it to.
FOG really is overkill for what you want. I would be using clonezilla for 1 machine with local disks. [url]http://www.clonezilla.org/[/url]

OpenSUSE is not officially supported by FOG, this means it will work but you may need to spend extra time fiddling with things to get it working. OpenSUSE is “sponsored” by Microsoft… I would pick a different distro, one isnt influenced by Microsoft.

If you wanted to play/learn FOG, i would start with a Virtual Machine. There are VM’s setup and ready for download in the [URL=‘http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=201099’]download section[/URL].

Yes, that was the conclusion I was slowly coming to. So Fog is more for server admins? Shame as it otherwise seems really cool. Would tar or rsync or duplicity also be another option?

FOG is a network based solution, where clonezilla is more a media based (CD, USB, etc) solution.
That being said, Clonezilla does have network support.
