PXE booting a small form Dell Optiplex 755, I got the FOG menu and after one bad attempt, got the ‘quick’ registration done.

I scheduled an upload of that machine and it worked.

      Upon rebooting the Dell Optiplex 755, it reports BOOTMGR is missing. {edited 7/28/15}

      What did I do wrong?

      FOG SERVER:
Optiplex 745 (Intel Core 2) with 4G ram
Ubuntu server 14.04 with JUST the desktop loaded.
      FOG 1.2.0
NO DHCP turned on (I cannot touch the windows server DHCP settings)
I followed the “Using FOG with an unmodifiable DHCP server/ Using FOG with no DHCP server” directions, with the se changes:
      enable-tftp
      dhcp-boot=undionly.kkpxe,x.x.x.x

Is your image one that you built from scratch, or is the imaged based on a manufacturer image?

745 and 755 work fine up and down.

Did you do a chckdsk /f /r ? and 2 reboot. before you upload ?

          Ubuntu 13.10 - Fog 1.3.0
          XEON E5630 - 16 Go - 6To raid 5
          Best download : 22Go in 23 sec
Avg rate : 4.5G/min on 20 unicasts at same time

It is a load we do from a windows 7 educational license set - to keep the add-ons to a minimum.

@RileyG Is the image built as GPT or MBR ?

@RileyG Here is a picture of the windows computer listing (from when I try to ‘fix’ the problem via the windows boot media - http://www.walnuthedgehog.com/stuff/JustForFun/0728151017.jpg It shows that now there are 3 partitions instead of 2.
                😄 74.4G, System Reserved (D:) 99.9MB, and a Boot (X:) of 31.4MB.
Where did the X drive come from? is this something I need to account for before I completely rebuild this machine (again)?

@Wayne-Workman Hard to tell. This lab was imaged last year from a single and then all set individually touched to update and change names etc. Did you catch the update? The machine is reporting BOOTMGR is missing. I may pull the drive and check it as a USB attached to see what is has on it.

@TheKoR uses FOG Trunk, and so do I at both my work and home. I think there would be a good chance that your issue would be resolved if you moved to FOG Trunk.

My reasoning for this is the extra 100MB partition you’re seeing. There was a bug in 1.2.0 that didn’t work well with manufacturer’s custom MBRs (specifically Lenovo and Dell). You’re affected by this issue, and it’s mostly resolved in the current FOG Trunk, so I think you’d have good odds with upgrading.

As before any update, save your DB and your hosts prior to this. FOG Configuration -> Configuration Save -> Export. Host Management -> Export -> Export.

Here is the article about upgrading to trunk: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Upgrade_to_trunk

@Wayne-Workman I did the upgrade (why can’t I get internet and fog to work at the same time - do I need 2 NIC’s?) Now it won’t start dnsmasq - tells me the IP addy in line 66 is in use. I am ready to quit for now. I have an appointment with my granddaughter for the next week two states north of here. I will re-install everything and begin anew when I get back as I have seen fit to break everything I have touched so far in the last two days. I will keep a tally of the ideas and suggestions I find here so perhaps next round I might succeed. @RileyG

@Wayne-Workman Can you install FOG directly from the TRUNK install? If so, I think I will start from that next time.

Yes, however, if you want to keep your host data and image data and other custom settings, you need to install 1.2.0 and then import your data, then move to trunk.

But, it might be best to start fresh.

Also, if you comment out the port=0 line in the dnsmasq config, it’s highly likely that you can have internet and fog at the same time.
