I need some help. I am running FOG .32 and Ubuntu 11.4. I am very new to the whole FOG Project and was told by my predecessor that updating anything could mess up the server. Everything has been going fine until this new batch of computers. When I tried to register the HP ProDesk 400 into FOG I get this …I need a fix quick and would greatly appreciate any help. Crunch time is coming and school will be starting soon.

Thanks,
Nate

I was told by my predecessor that updating could ruin all that I currently have. Is this true?

It won’t hurt to update, but update first then reinstall fog.

That all said, try my 32 bit kernel using these commands:
sudo wget -O /tftpboot/fog/kernel/bzImage https://svn.code.sf.net/p/freeghost/code/trunk/packages/web/service/ipxe/bzImage32
Hopefully you’ll behold all the juicy goodness built within this kernel.

Please help us build the FOG community with everyone involved. It's not just about coding - way more we need people to test things, update documentation and most importantly work on uniting the community of people enjoying and working on FOG! Get in contact with me (chat bubble in the top right corner) if you want to join in.

Web GUI issue? Please check apache error (debian/ubuntu: /var/log/apache2/error.log, centos/fedora/rhel: /var/log/httpd/error_log) and php-fpm log (/var/log/php*-fpm.log)

if your predecessor said that “updating anything could mess up the server” it makes me wonder if he had customized any of the code. if you have a non-standard setup, then updating could be bad.

Tom, Do I just type this in to the command prompt or do I need to download something? Sorry, I am very new to this.

Should I update to Ubuntu 12.04, then install FOG 1.2.0, then install the kernel? Or should I just update to the latest Ubuntu I can?

Hey Tom, sorry to bother, i’m just in crisis mode. I updated to 12.04 and now i’m getting “unable to connect to database”. Should I try and install 1.2.0 or stick to the .32? I am also unfamiliar with the command you sent. Do I run that in terminal or…? Let me know and thanks for your help.

You can run that in the command in terminal or however you decide to run it you can choose to upgrade to 1.to.0 if you want to but it’s not an absolute must if you are sure everything you have now works you just need a new kernel to get rid of the call trace

What about not being able to connect to the server after updating?

ok, tom’s on his way home and can’t answer at the moment. i’ll try to help you out here
the “unable to connect to database” is typically either because the database is not running, or more commonly because the password is incorrect for the database.
after you updated from 11.4 to 12.04, did you reboot?

it’s ok. just go ahead and update to 1.2 now, the fog installer will either fix the mysql problem, or it should be easy to fix afterward anyway.
