Client reboots on image upload also strange visual appearances.

Hello everyone,

I finally managed to get fog up and running propperly.

Well that is what I thought.

Using Kubuntu 12.04.4lts a Windows dhcp&dns server with scope options 66 and 67 enabled.
All clients receive a ip addres and are capable of pining the fog server and the windows dhcp/dns server.
PXE boot works fine as wel, I manage to get in to FOG’s pxe boot menu.

But after creating a image upload task for a windows xp professional client everything goes wrong.
The upload succefully starts but when reaching 22% twice the client reboots and the task disappears…
So I am asuming it failed, as it only managed toupload 22%.

Also when starting the task the screen visuals change from normal to flashing white symbols.
Can’t make anything out of it.

Anyone experienced this before ? and know what the causes of these problems are ?

I don’t know what kind of visuals you’re seeing, but maybe it’s something similar to the information in this post?

For some strange unknown reason I managed to upload a image.
But deploying it seems to give the same visual appearance and it seems to get stuck at some point.
But I can’t really tell for I can’t see anything.

Here’s a picture of what I am currently seeing while uploading and deploying an image.

Okay it turns out it’s not the server nor my configuration.

but the laptops I used as clients.
They are old Fujitsu esprimo’s they might not be fully supported for image deployment.
How ever I did manage to upload 1 image.

And I deployed the image on a Acer Aspire 5610 which worked fine, even though the bios isn’t supported by fog.
It can obtain a deployed image but it does get errors when trying to upload one.

Those BIOS errors don’t mean diddly. FOG has the opportunity to use information from the BIOS for HOST Management and that is about it, that is not to say that there have not been times when a BIOS update has broken FOG or pxe booting capabilities…

Is there some kind of a watchdog setting on these machines? I had some Toshibas that gave me hell when imaging. I was in the similar boat as you my machine kept powering itself off and it turned out to be a BIOS Setting. So look for anything that would shut the machine off due to “inactivity”.
