Deployment Pauses FOG 0.32

Started using FOG early last year when we did a desktop refresh here at the office, never had an ounce of trouble with deployments or uploads during the refresh. Fast forward to now and I have a machine that I need to reimage (one that was originally deployed using FOG), the deployment starts out fine but once it gets to around 200mb or so on the 2nd partition (Win7 64bit 18gb image) the deployment stops and starts for long periods of time. Sometimes the image deployment will take an hour + to deploy, sometimes it freezes all together. I’ve tried different hard drives, different machines all together, different network switches, different kernels including compiling my own, all with the same result. I’ve even rebuilt a new FOG server and migrated my configs and images over…with no luck. I can do an nfs mount from another linux machine and copy images at near wire speed with no issues. I’ve searched these forums up and down for a solution with no success…at my wits end. Any ideas??
Little more background, I’m having these issues on an Optiplex 3010 workstation, and a Oracle Virtualbox VM. FOG server is currently running on vSphere 5, 2 cores allocated it, 4GB RAM, 8 15K SAS spindles on the underlying disk system. Kernels tried, 3.8.8, 3.6.9, 3.13, 3.4.77.

Are you deploying the image to a VM on your workstation? I’m a bit confused about your setup.

This particular issue seems to me a problem with the switching equipment. Maybe you had a broadcast storm (a switch with a cable that plugged back into the switch forming a loop) and sending all the data in the wrong direction on the network. I’d start be removing as many variables as you can. Take that system and a mini switch and plug the fog server nic directly into the switch. Connect the computer to the switch and try imaging.

Chad, originally no…I was trying to deploy to a Dell OptiPlex 3010 workstation, after many failures I created an Oracle VirtualBox VM to do a test deployment to with the same results. My FOG server is virtualized on VMware vSphere 5. Hope that clears up the confusion.

Tom, I’ll see what I can come up with…it will be difficult for me to take it all completely off the network without totally building out a new lab type environment with dhcp, new fog server, etc. I can’t think of anything as far as the network goes that has changed all that much in the last 8-9 months but my sense is you are probably right with it being some quirky network issue.
I’ll keep digging and see what I can figure out.
