Laptop wont boot past fog menu
-
I have 2 laptops that have network boot as the first boot option. Neither have a task assigned. Both laptops will boot to the Fog menu and exit since there is no assigned task. One continues to boot to OS while the other hangs on boot with a blinking cursor. Any recommendations on how I would get the second to continue booting to windows?

Are these the same make an model of computers?
It sounds like they are pxe booting into the FOG iPXE menu and then exiting back to the uefi firmware using refind. It sounds like refind is having an issue with one of these computers finding the boot media. What is different between these two computers is the question?

Thanks for the reply. These are two separate models of laptops. The one not having any issues is ASUS Strix (INTEL SSDSA2BW600G3) and the second is a Lenovo X260 (INTEL SSDSC2BB480G6). They’re both set to network boot and when the fog menu appears the next boot device on both are set to boot to disk if no input is made.

Lenovo X260
I take it both of these are in uefi mode?
The thing is that in uefi mode the iPXE program will use a different program called refind.efi to locate the windows boot partition and boot it.
Sometimes refind has an issue initializing the hardware on some computers. So its just the lenovo that is having an issue at the moment. Make sure the firmware is up to date on the x260 computer. There is something unique about that hardware (or firmware) that is keeping refind from initializing if you are just getting the flashing cursor when the iPXE menu exits. For bios based computers iPXE itself will boot into the OS
If updating the firmware on the lenovo doesn’t work, if you are willing I want to try an experiment to see if we can get this lenovo to boot using a different exit mode.

@george1421 The ASUS was set to uefi mode and the Levovo was set to legacy. I updated the firmware on the Lenovo and changed it from legacy to uefi and now i’m presented with the eEFIND about page.
