    Hi everyone,

I am trying ( as many others ) to mount /images and /dev on an external NFS storage. ( ZFS filesystem )

Most of the questions and answer I found on the forum are from previous years so I am trying my luck one more time.

is there a new way to capture clones and write them on the nfs storage?
Would FTP still be required to be configured on the NAS ?

    Thanks again .

@mickg You can not normally reshare a NFS mounted share. Its the same thing in windows. you can’t map a network drive (Z: drive) then reshare that Z: drive to a 3rd computer.

If your nas is capable, you can configure it to act like a FOG Storage node. In that case the target computer will nfs mount the NAS and not the FOG server to deliver the file.

      What OS is your NAS?

Your NAS will need nfs and ftp support. I have a tutorial on how to configure a synology nas as a FOG storage node. I know there are other tutorials for QNAP.

@george1421 Thanks for your anwser George,

I understand that it is not possible to re-share a share but I still had hope for a workaround.

I read the tutorial for the Synology nas and saw something about the QNAP but I am not sure it can apply to us, I will check with our senior guy tomorrow.

To configure the NAS to act like a FOG storage node, Should I run the installation script which would install the database on it ?

I think I read something about that but I cannot find it again, I will look for it also tomorrow.

We are not sure which filesystem we want to use but I am currently testing on BrickStorOS.

        Thank you

Absolutely no. You need to manually configure the NAS to act like a storage node, in that the nfs share and ftp user account should point to the same file path.

While I haven’t tested it, in theory if you mounted an iscsi share to the NAS and then the iscsi mount point might be able to be shared via nfs. As I said I have not tested it.

          What device is your NAS?

@george1421 it is a racktop production filesystem,
the server “heads” are from racktop
I don’t know what filesystem is under that.

The senior sysadmin is looking into creating the share on that system.

I will let you know once I can continue working on this.

            Thank again
