Fog ProxyDHC with Fog and Pfsense on the same network
-
Is it possible to coexist Fog ProxyDHC with Fog and Pfsense on the same network?
-
@sckendall Yes. ProxyDHCP if configured as outline in the tutorial will only supply pxe booting information. Pfsense will supply the dhcp IP and other information.
But I can tell you that pfsense supports netbooting too. It just needs to be enabled in the configuration.

But I want a fog server configured with dsnmasq running on a physical machine connected to the same network as Pfsense. I wonder if that would result in any conflict. For example, at boot time, the machine would use which fog server? what is configured in pfsense or the other that uses dnsmasq?

@sckendall If you want ProxyDHCP on same network as your pfsense you can do this yes, with no conflicts. Just be sure to disable network booting inside your pfsense dhcp server configuration.
Then follow the instructions here to install ProxyDHCP (dnsmasq) on your fog server. This configuration will not interfere with your pfsense dhcp server. https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/12796/installing-dnsmasq-on-your-fog-server

Explain why you have doubt? At my home I have openwrt as my firewall and dnsmasq running on my FOG server(s) at the same time. No problems at all.

Well, the question is whether it is possible to have two independent fog servers on the same network. That is, two independent fog servers, one installed on each machine. In the case of a fog server on a virtual machine in the datacenter, and another fog server on a local machine, in this case my machine, for personal use here at work. This local server would be for personal use only. Keep some images from my notebook and desktop. The other server in the datacenter is for use across our network and subnet. The latter is already functional configured with Pfsense. I believe that because I am using google translator it is not very clear to you.

Well this sentence changes everything.
If you want to pxe boot on your laptop you will need an isolated network or if you are running a hypervisor on your laptop then you can create an internal network.
I just think of an idea. Its possible if on your main FOG server, you create a custom FOG iPXE menu that links the fog server on your laptop. Then normal pxe booting to main fog server, then chain (ipxe command) to your FOG server. That is possible.
