I know this is not a Fog problem because it works in all the rest of the computers, just to see if anyone had got this problem before. I’m trying to use wimboot to boot winpe, but after the load on the winpe I got a black and nothing happens after that. Only in intel 6th gen. Tested right now with an HP 840 g3.

    Thanks!

There is a two ways to use winboot, did you set it up similar to this article? https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/10944/using-fog-to-pxe-boot-into-your-favorite-installer-images/10

So the next question, does this same winpe setup boot on 7th gen or later? I’m just wondering if M$ did something to make Win10PE to not boot on the older kit??

If you ignore the pxe booting part does the winpe image boot from usb media?

Right now its not clear if its the pxe boot or the winpe image at fault.

@george1421 said in Boot from wimpe Intel 6th Gen Black Screen:

        its

This setup works for any pc/laptop except on Intel 6th gen. I got the same problem with HPs and Dells. I really don’t think that is a PXE problem. I can PXE and select in the menu from where I want to boot, winboot does its thing and when it looks like it will start to load the OS the screen goes black (death) and nothing more happens. Very weird.

        Thanks for the help

@maikBat So (without knowing what you are doing with the winpe image) I wonder if you built a new winpe image using a windows 7 box? This would be then winpe 4 or 5 (can’t remember). The only risk is that you will need the older drivers for the previous version of WinPE. Dell still has them on their enterprise site. https://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/sln312414/dell-command-deploy-driver-packs-for-enterprise-client-os-deployment?lang=en

I know somewhere along the way MS blocked Windows running and getting updates on older hardware. I wonder if that stop made it into the winpe environments?

I have the issue with HP 840 G3’s as well. I am booting the WinPE 10 wim using wimboot and similar to this article. https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/10944/using-fog-to-pxe-boot-into-your-favorite-installer-images/10

Works fine when I boot an ISO of WinPE 10 instead without using wimboot.

Did you figure out how to fix this?

@a_bains make sure you are using the instructions that say for both bios and uefi systems. https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/10944/using-fog-to-pxe-boot-into-your-favorite-installer-images/15

You do need to export the ISO to the files. The only way you can get the iso to boot is via memdisk in bios mode. UEFI doesn’t support memdisk booting.
