Re-naming hosts
-
I recently installed Fog 0.32 and have made it upload an image and deploy it to another (identical) machine. What I can’t find out is how to set Fog to change the hostname of the target PC. The target PC has been registered on the Fog database ok but the hostanem always ends up as the same as the PC the image was taken from. Does host re-naming only work with Multicasting?
Many thanks,
Paul.

Paul,
Do you have the FOG client installed, and enabled the hostname changer? You may need to modify the .ini file from this to fine tune the client a bit to your liking.

Kevin,
Thanks for the info.
Yes the hostname changer is enabled and also is in the main Fog settings (I saw the bit saying one would override the other). Presumably the target PC should take on the hostname used when it was registered? Where is the ini file by the way?
Ta,
Paul.

Kevin,
I forgot to mention the client was installed on the machine I took the image from so should be available when the target machine restarts.
Thanks,
Paul.

Hi,
it’s very interesting. Once machine is registered with FOG, host name is mac address, (correct?) how fog client can help to change hosts’ names? Where I can see more info about this? Because now, I’m renaming all hosts manually.
Thanks for your thoughts!

The FOG client and service will rename and join computers to the domain if you have the following:
[]Client registered with FOG and given a name
[]Fog Client installed on the client machine/image.
[]FOG server running on the client machine
[]HostNameChanger enabled on the client through the ini file or settings when you installed the FOG client software
[]HostNameChanger enabled globally on the server settings: FOG Configuration -> Hostname Changer -> enabled
[]HostNameChanger enabled for the host in the host record’s service settings.
And Optionally:

You have FOGCrypted a password for a user account that can join computers to the domain and you have put this info in the FOG Settings.
