Hello, had a quick question. I’m not the primary person managing our Fog server, but I’m working with him and we’re having an issue.

We have a large Fog server managing many clients and using many of Fog’s features like AD joining and printer associations. We are migrating from an old Fog server to a newer one, just to upgrade to better server hardware. Both versions of Fog on old and new are the same, we are using 1.5.5.

When we import everything to the new server, it all moves across just fine and seems to be working, except for the printer associations with the hosts. Those did not come across, and we’re not sure why. The printers themselves are there, but when you click on a host and go to its printer tab, it is empty, no printers are associated. We are trying to avoid having to manually re-associate all of our printers if possible. We still have access to the old server so we can still redo any aspect of the migration if necessary.

In an export/import, where does this data reside? Should it be exported alongside the hosts? Does anyone have any thoughts or tips that could help? Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

@mstallter No it’s not a dumb question at all. One might assume that export would give you all the information you need. But for a full migration you should follow the instructions in the wiki: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Migrate_FOG

Web GUI issue? Please check apache error (debian/ubuntu: /var/log/apache2/error.log, centos/fedora/rhel: /var/log/httpd/error_log) and php-fpm log (/var/log/php*-fpm.log)

Please support FOG if you like it: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/Support_FOG

@mstallter Did you export/import the whole database?

We used the individual commands on each page, “import/export hosts,” “import/export groups,” “import/export printers.” We thought we had done it before this way and it worked, though that would’ve been a year ago or more. Looking in the hosts csv file, we don’t see any printer data, though.

Do we need to use a program external to Fog itself to import the entire database as a whole? We do have someone here looking into that right now.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, maybe we shouldn’t have assumed the host export would contain that info as well.

                  Thanks for the help.

At this point I’m not sure if we’ll have the opportunity to test this, as we may have identified some other issues with our specific setup, we’re looking into some possible changes into how we manage our printers. But I’m sure we’ll have a need to use this method in the future.
