Host Issues

Wanted to start off that FOG has been really awesome and a great tool for us in a small school district.
Recently I had to rebuild our FOG server because Debian got corrupted somehow and could not get it to boot I could not get the current host file off the machine before i had to nuke it. Is there a way to get all the hosts to check in with the new FOG server manually or will we have to re-image the computers to see the new FOG server I kept all the settings the same from the last one? -
@Fithian Using the exact same server IP and hostname for your new one is the first important step. Did you take a full backup of the old database to import into the new server?
About the clients, read this: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Migrate_FOG#If_old_server_was_FOG_1.3.0.2B

@Sebastian-Roth Unfortunately I was not able to get to the old database as it was deleted on accident during an upgrade of partitions trying to expand the images folder. Which I know how to now with installing and setting up the server myself this time. Could I have my network admin use PDQDeply to uninstall the old client and install the new one. I know the MSI is not recommended but would this work in our case?

@Fithian Sorry if I wasn’t clear enough. Those are two different things. Database is holding all the host, image definitions and FOG settings. If this is lost you will have to create those things manually again. Either register clients through the FOG menu or manually add clients in the web UI.
The other thing is the fog client being installed on the client computers. They won’t connect to your new FOG server unless you are able to recover the SSL certs/keys from your old server and put in place on the new one. Read the article I posted.
As you have not told us much about what is lost and what is still left I am just doing guess work here. If your old server is totally gone and you can’t get hold of the SSL files you will probably need to re-deploy the fog-client to your hosts. Any deployment tool will do that job I reckon.

@Sebastian-Roth Thanks, I will have my Network admin redeploy the FOG client. Then entire environment was lost to a bad upgrade. This solved my problem
