    Lets start at the basics.

Are you able to pxe boot into the FOG iPXE menu?
Can you get it to the point where it gets an IP address but fails to download the NBF file?
What precisely doesn’t work (screen shots of the error gladly accepted).

Please help us build the FOG community with everyone involved. It's not just about coding - way more we need people to test things, update documentation and most importantly work on uniting the community of people enjoying and working on FOG!

All I am currently getting as of right now, following the iPXE create your own from source method:

Yes, I really did just ask that question and I am only /slightly/ ashamed of it.

@ttrammell Do you get the same error message when using the stock FOG supplied version of ipxe.efi?

And just to be clear this device IS a uefi device?

I do, although I believe it adds on to it “No devices found”, or something along those lines. I will need to retry that method to be sure, but it was only a one-liner addition with that exact wording or very similar.

And just to be clear this device IS a uefi device?

As far as I am aware. I have been unable to find anywhere to enable Legacy ROM settings.

          • Networking Stack: Enabled

          • IPv4 PXE Support: Enabled

          • IPv6 PXE Support: Disabled

          • Secure Boot: Disabled

          • Fast Boot: Disabled

          • CSM Support: Enabled

          • Launch PXE OpROM policy: Enabled

          • Legacy ROM Settings: Cannot find at all.

          • All I/O Security: Unlocked

Yes, I really did just ask that question and I am only /slightly/ ashamed of it.

@ttrammell All of your settings look good.

On the plus side your firmware in this device supports your usb network adapter, or you would not get the iPXE kernel.

Just off the top it looks like iPXE doesn’t support this network adapter. I’m surprised it doesn’t say to press ‘s’ to access the ipxe shell.

If iPXE doesn’t support your hardware, pxe booting may be out of the question. Imaging with fog doesn’t absolutely require iPXE, it just makes imaging a bit cleaner.

From a windows computer, can you get the hardware id of this network adapter?

You can bypass pxe booting altogether by building a usb boot drive that boots directly into FOS. There are a few caveats to going this route, but if you can’t pxe boot then your options a limited. https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/7727/building-usb-booting-fos-image

Pay attention to the caveats and steps you have to take after creating the boot image. Also look at the forum chat for a few additional tips.

I’ll have to get back with you on this one, with how I managed to get the option, but one of the above allowed me to press CTRL-B to access the PXE shell-- I just don’t know anything about how to use the shell, so I couldn’t do anything.

I’ll give all the options a go one more time and pass along some proper documentation on each attempt, because I tried them all, got flustered, and flung myself at the forum.

Give me a moment; booting into the OS.

George got me going on a working a FOS he made; will play with what he has given me, since it’s only throwing common problems at me now. Will update the post when I have more.

@george1421 Hey, I just wanted to let you know that your FOS just saved me from going POSTAL.

I have successfully managed to upload and download an image; UEFI BIOS on the Zenbook still doesn’t recognize the USB-to-Ethernet adapter, but as soon as it boots into the FOS it recognizes it and works like a charm.

Cannot thank you enough for making this extremely simple and straightforward, even with the hiccup of the USB-to-Ethernet MAC being bound to one machine-- that’s not your fault, that’s just a hurdle that’ll come to pass by the sound of where the FOG Project is going-- even with that, really simple and straightforward.

Putting your FOS tutorial as a link for this topic: https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/7727/building-usb-booting-fos-image

FWIW: To get this to work, you need network adapters supported by your hardwares UEFI firmware. Think of uefi as a very limited operating system. If it doesn’t have the drivers built in, then it can’t initialize the device. So if you want to pxe boot on that zenbook you need to contact the manufacturer to find out what usb network adapters are supported by the firmware … or … just boot fos from the usb stick and move on to the next problem.
