• RE: Can't read the following volume file

I tried moving images again yesterday afternoon and for whatever reason, it worked this time. I was using two fog “servers” on the same subnet in my building, used rsync to move the file, and then used sudo chown root:root to change ownership of the image file. After creating the image definition file in FOG, I was able to push that image down to another machine.

Server 1 was running Ubuntu 12.04 and server 2 is running 11.10. Previous attempts to transfer files were moving from a server running 11.10 to a server running 10.04LTS. But, all four machines were using fog_0.32 from sourceforge.

On the machines they’re copied from, or similar machines, rather, root has “ownership,” but at this point, I’m willing to try anything.

• RE: Can't read the following volume file

I’m getting the same errors when i’m trying to deploy images copied from one server to another. My servers are 10.04LTS with FOG 0.32. I’ve copied my files with rsync from one server to another, used: CHOWN, CHGRP, and CHMOD 777 on the image files as well as the /images folder so that they are “root” owned with read/write/execute at every level. I don’t know what else to do and I certainly don’t want to haul computers all over the district to get images uploaded. Any help is very much appreciated.
copy the images to the /images/ folder on the new fog server. go to the web ui, setup the image definitions pointing to the named files or folders matching what you copied.

The FOG UI/Database keeps information about the images, like what they are named, where they are located, and what operating system they correspond to. The filesys tem keeps the actual image files. You have to redefine the images in FOG (webui) to match the data files you stored in /images/
Chad-bisd, I’ve used the rsync method described by Blackout, and I used your suggestion for defining the image file. However, I still cannot use an image that was copied from one image to another. Are more files created than just the primary image file in /images? Everytime I try to use a copied image, i get the attached message.

@ Wizard210: Have you tried editing your kernel to include the ATI drivers from the link in my above post? I haven’t had any success with it, but i’ve only tried it once and haven’t had a chance to get back to it. I was able to take the video card out of my desktop machines and ran FOG without a problem, so it’s definitely the video driver in my situation.

I found another post from another site…can’t find it now to save my life…but it suggested that you go to /etc/hosts and edit the IP
addresses from 127.0.0.1 to whatever it was that you set as your IP address for the server. I changed them both and it worked like a charm. If I come across that post again I’ll add it in.

http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/compiling-a-custom-kernel-for-acer-iconia-tab-copied-from-old-forums.216/

I have been trying these steps all afternoon, and have not been able to “make bzImage” I only get
make: *** No rule to make target `bzImage’. Stop. o_O

I was also getting that message when I was trying to run “make xconfig.” Once it finally worked I went in, changed the following:

Because the video on these devices is ATI Radeon HD 6250 (PCI Express based) I also deselected the “Device Drivers - Graphics Support - AGPGART (AGP Support)” and selected “Device Drivers - Graphics Support - Direct Rendering Manage (XFree86 4.1.0 and Higher DRI Support) - ATI Radeon”.

saved and exited my file tried to compile it and got the above stop error. I was working in the linux-3.2.11 kernel.

• RE: Lenovo X120e upload Fail

I’m having the same issues with a Dell Optiplex 780. Here are the system specs for that machine:

Optiplex 780 SFF
Win 7 32bit
Intel Core2 Duo E8400 3.0GHZ
4GB RAM
256MB ATI Radeon 3450

I’ve tried three different Kernels and get the same result with all.
