• RE: Issues booting to fog using dnsmasq

Correct. If you look at the jpegs I attached to an earlier post.

If I change the ltsp.conf to use undionly.0 it boots to network and imediatly gives me file not found. With the conf set as in my last post containing that info, it boots to the Network, goes to the second JPEG then attempts to try downloading default.ipxe from the DHCP server rather than the FOG Server where TFTP is set up and running. And as I stated if I stop dnsmasq on the FOG Server there is nothing else on the network handling Network boots so the systems fail that and go to their HDD.

I will go through the TCPDump steps and post the output.

Yes, I do. If I specify that though it goes back to File not found even though I can GET it on my Windows Workstation using TFTP.

    • RE: Issues booting to fog using dnsmasq

I did that and I still get the file not found when I try and boot a system from the Network, but I can get it using tftp from my Windows Workstation.

I switched everything back to using undionly.kpxe and it gives me the same thing I was getting with my original ltsp.conf.

Yes, I looked at that and it got me to this point. Like I said I can use TFTP from my Windows System to get every file except the symlink undionly.0.

Guess I will try some more tomorrow.

That conf setup gives me a file not found. I can use tftp on my Windows 7 system to get all the other files, including undionly.kpxe and according to the permissions on undionly.0 all users have Read Write access.

Yes on the Fog Server it does exist, but not on the DHCP server where it is looking for it.

I can look at the settings but cannot change them and option 66 and 67 are both unchecked on the server. Is there somewhere else that this would be set on the DHCP server?

    • Issues booting to fog using dnsmasq

      My ITSP.conf file:
port=0

      log-dhcp

      tftp-root=/tftpboot

      dhcp-boot=undionly.kpxe,172.25.5.80

      dhcp-option=17,/images

      dhcp-option=vendor:PXEClient,6,2b

      dhcp-no-override

      pxe-prompt=“Press F8 for boot menu”, 0

      pxe-service=X86PC, “Boot from network”, undionly.kpxe

pxe-service=X86PC, “Boot from local hard disk”, 0

      dhcp-range=172.25.100.46,proxy,255.255.0.0
When I boot a machine it grabs an ip address from the DHCP server and PXE boot info from the FOG Server. It gives me the Message " Boot from Network" then starts trying to grab default.ipxe It fails on this step because it is trying to get the file from the DHCP/DNS server 172.25.5.3

I cannot figure out why it is going to the DHCP/DNS Server rather than the FOG Server to get this file. To rule out something else being set up on the network that is trying to handle this info I turned off dnsmasq and my test system times out looking for a network boot device and boots to teh HDD.

      Any ideas?

    • RE: Windows 7 Deployment FOG- SAD2 Driver tool

Hello Andy and all the helpful folks in the forums,

This tutorial is great and has me all set up with a generic image. The only issue I am running into right now is that the new Dell machines we are getting in at work don’t have all of their drives in the latest Driver packs.

I looked through their forums and found some tutorials on how to add your own DriverPacks, but they are about 6 years old and I haven’t gotten the steps to work yet, though still working on it. I have found How to add drivers to the existing Driver packs, but thsi means I will have to add the drivers everytime a new DriverPack comes out.

Anyone have any idea how to add my own driver pack so I can put all the missing drivers in it and not have to mess with the driverpacks that can be obtained from the DriverPack site?

If I find the solution myself I will post here.

    • Hostnamechanger.dll question

I have version 1.2.0 and am having trouble determining if I need to replace the Hostnamechange.dll that gets installed with the client with the Hostnamechanger.dll from http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/fog-1-2-0-product-key-changer.12510/

1.) We use OEM keys, as we are very small, so they are hard stored into the systems. No need to add a Product Key to the system.

2.) All I am looking to do is have the Host Name of the system change and then the system added to the Domain.

3.) I have FOG Configuration set up, but have yet to test this feature.

Thanks for any clarification you can give me.

I am looking for some video tutorials on the Basics functions of FOG. I have seen the Live Demo Coming soon and the link to video tutorials on the Wiki is down. So I was wondering if there were any current video tutorials out there. I havn’t looked at Youtube yet but figured I would post here first.

      Thanks!

      That worked!!!

Thanks you guys are great and now begins the process of exploring the features we are not using yet and convincing my bosses that we should be.

This is an awesome tool thanks for making it, updating it and helping those of us new to linux and FOG.

Attached is snippets from the apache error and access logs. I don’t see any activity from Friday March 27th, which is when we did the upgrade. I am thinking maybe the issue is with the networking setup on the machine? Do you guys have any ideas? I was thinking about just backing up our data, upgrading to a newer distro (that you guys have listed as stable) and redoing the install of the latest FOG version.

We only use it for FOG. Since it is completely on it’s own network I will look at the apache logs on Monday when I get back into the office. I doesn’t connect to the internet at all.
