You could also (for kicks) automate the process using an auto extracting 7zip. The file transfer speed might be faster as well, since it is moving a single compressed folder across the network.
Well documented Smog Thanks.

glad it worked out well for you.
This tool was written for Windows XP, I’m not sure if it works with Windows 7. Are you using XP or 7?
The ability to delete the user profile account is VERY helpful in a lab setting where you don’t want user data to be retained, and to keep the boot and load time low for the equipment. The more user accounts on the machine (especially in xp) increases the load time.
This took works similar to delprof from Microsoft - http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5405
your TFTP password must match the password on the user account (last time I checked anyway)
if you haven’t tried yet, please try an older version of memdisk for that .iso
I ran into issues in the past with the newer copies of memdisk in the past.
Activation should be done by the KMS server (assuming you are using a volume license server). Otherwise you will need to hand-activate all the machines or use something like the opa tool - http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/28649-OpaTool-updated-v0-8 (again… YOU MUST KEEP YOUR LICENSES STRAIGHT! IF YOU ARE LICENSED FOR PRO, LOAD PRO, etc.) I’m not condoning piracy here… use your head people.
thx.
i’m sure it’s possible at some level, but not really wanted or needed. The best bet it to simply use the single .iso and have it be loaded into memory.
Use the following guide to add the DBAN .iso to your boot menu - http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/how-to-modify-the-pxe-boot-menu-to-allow-the-booting-of-iso-files.154/
you can download dban here - http://dban.org/
Thanks for the documentation, glad it is working for you.
If you get this functionality working, please document it in a KB article or on the wiki.
thanks
When you upload an image to the server it compresses the file, so it’s not raw. This is why the image size is smaller on the server.
When you download the file it should go much faster due to it needing to extract the file, and not needing to use the CPU cycles to compress it.
Your images are rather large in comparison to most images I work with 3-6 GB.
Does it go faster when pulling an image down from the server?
Please verify that you have your DHCP settings correct (66 and 67 for server 2003 / 2008) that point to your fog server.
look here for more info - http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Windows_DHCP_Server
If you are using a router or something other than windows server for DHCP look here - http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Modifying_existing_DHCP_server_to_work_with_FOG
Sounds like your network is not set and pointing to your fog server.
There are a few ways around this problem. Prior to version 0.28 you could push the client software to the PC with AD using Group Policy and have it auto register.
Now with that feature removed… at least I thought it was (the auto registration) we use spiceworks to scan our network, get the mac addresses and computer names over to a .csv (using their inventory feature) and import that into Fog.
Remember that when you PXE boot using FOG it is using syslinux. This will point you in the right direction - http://www.syslinux.org/wiki/index.php/Comboot/menu.c32
Are you doing multicast or unicast for the deployment?
we ran into similar issues here at work… we had to run a fix mbr on the machines to get them to boot.
if you selected non-re sizable it should resolve some of your issues. Give it a shot.
smog hit the nail on the head. thanks.
you can also have a vanilla (unedited .iso) as well as a second customized .iso in your boot menu. Gives you more flexibility.
I’m sure there will be training this year. There has been training the last 3 years in a row
If your computers are tied in through active directory you may want to look at group policy and adding printers through this method. I’ve found this to be extremely helpful and easy. ^_^
