Thanks for your time ssx…have you been able to upload the “sysprep.zip” files yet, I can’t seem to find the posted link.
@sid @buck @scsi

I have been out of the states on work for the last 3 weeks. I won’t be back till the 2nd week in July.

I tried to wake on lan my pc at home, but the packet isn’t getting to my server for some reason, and I can’t remotely turn it on any other way.

Once back I’ll re-host these files.

Thanks for being patient, I’ll get back to you shortly on this.

Ok so I found my two sysprep.zip folders and I’ll have those re-uploaded shortly.

Sorry for the delay. Life has been busy, and I do this as a hobby on the side.

    • RE: Image boots but with Windows Installer Error Message

Defiantly a sysprep issue. Double check the .xml

You could also build your image in a VM setting for quick testing and replication.

      @jayphizzle

Use msconfig and under the startup tab make sure fogtray is disabled. Then go into your start menu and remove fogtray.exe from startup.

      It’s that simple.

the client still communicates using the fog service, but the communication won’t be displayed on the fog tray (also removed printer support )

I have to dig up a copy of this file again, if I can’t i’ll have to re-create it (not hard I have a version in a VM I can use).

      give me a bit.

      thanks.

    • RE: Fogg Server Hardware Requirements

I’ve done multicasting of 20 pc’s (4gb image) on a standalone switch with a Core 2 Duo with 8GB of memory (dedicated).

Again, the speed of your network / size of your image / and HDD speed of your server and clients dictates your overall speed.

It should work either way I believe. The Mass Storage drivers included in the sysprep.zip folder cover ATA and ACHI I believe.

      Give it a shot.

    • RE: How-to: Modify your snapinclient.dll file to check in more quickly on a reboot

You may want to start small and monitor your network traffic while implementing this. I didn’t notice any large scale increase in overall network traffic by YMMV.

Remember you can switch back at any time by swapping the .dll back and restarting the fog service.

      Enjoy.

    • RE: [SnapIns] "Interactive services dialog detection" Popup

If you don’t use fogtray and ONLY use the client service I think it will resolve these issues for win 7. The client needs to be updated and configured for win 7 which it hasn’t been yet. I think the issue you are seeing is due to UAC.
It’s working! The kernel was the problem, i updated him and is ok now…Many thanks :)
Glad to hear it worked out for you.

As a friendly reminder if you have a model computer that will not boot / image the first things to check are what I posted above (Kernel / bios setting). If neither of those 2 work then the work gets a bit more involved to make the model compatible.

      😃

      Enjoy.

    • RE: FOG Deployment Problem

If you could, please check and see if you are the latest kernel (you can update it through the fog web console under settings).

Then try to boot into debug mode as shown here - http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/quick-host-registration-stalling-at-kernel_thread_helper.746/ (post #5) see the video. Simply PXE boot the client computer and select debug mode.

It’s possible that a few things are going on.

#1. Your chipset isn’t supported or controller isn’t supported
#2. Your bios is set to ACHI / RAID so Linux fails to mount and back up these partitions (check and see if you can set them to SATA mode).

I’m pretty sure your NIC is supported due to you saying it started to back up the machine and the task started.

Also please note that if a client machine doesn’t boot, it’s typically not the server side that has issues (other than a kernel update or software update for the fog project software). Most often it’s the new equipment that needs to be made to work with the existing kernels (or the kernels need to be updated to support them)

      oh, never mind then sorry.

We need more information to help you further. Could you please tell us what type of pc you were trying to image? Make / model / chipset / nic / etc.

Also when you imaged the PC were you using sysprep? Was the installation of Windows 7 a factory install or a reinstall with the default 100mb partition?

    • RE: Unable to upload a Windows 7 image from a SSD

SSD’s use 4K sector format drives I believe. I think .033 includes 4k support for SSDS and other large format drives.

    • RE: Can't Registered Host

On these optiplex units have you changed the sata configuration from RAID/ACHI to ATA mode to see if this helps register them?

edit I should clarify here… we have 755’s which are very similar to your 790’s, and have had no issues when we adjust the SATA configuration (see below)

Configures the operating mode of the integrated hard drive controller.
[]AHCI = SATA is configured for AHCI mode
      [
]ATA = SATA is configured for ATA mode
[]RAID ON = SATA is configured to support RAID mode
      [
]Disabled = The SATA controller is hidden

Another question: I don’t have any compilers I can use to recompile the .dll file. Would the file you provided, work when I stick it into the FOG folder? Or would I need to recompile it? Thanks!
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

The .dll I provided goes in the client folder (C:\program files (x86)\fog) or just program files on an 32bit os.

You don’t have to re-compile it, it’s already been modified for a 20 second check in time 😃

I believe that imaging for Linux is in the works but not fully supported due to EXT4 coming out in .033
FOG is my favourite imaging tool, but I have to remember to make the base image an ext3 partition each time, so if you could make it support ext4, it will be super helpful!!!

check the changelogs, I know that ex4 is in the works.
