    • FOG Service CA Certificate problem

I have a new Win7 Install in a VM, and I am getting ā€œFailed to download CA Certificateā€ when I run the new FOG Service setup.
      FOG version 5800.
Do I use the old version?

    • Does FOG change the Linux "fog" user password ?

After installing fog, I wasn’t near the pc and the lock screen came up and now I cant login.
I think last time I ended up changing the fog user password back to what I originally set.
Is this normal behaviour? and now I cant log into my new VM.

    • Updates broke CentOS, can I fix it?

      Hi Guys,
Since I have been using VMWare free, taking ā€œsnapshotsā€ with a bunch of images takes ages and uses lots of space… Needless to say I don’t have a decent backup. ( Still prototyping but if I can fix it will save me lots of time)

I am running CentOS 7 in VMWare and let it apply updates, now VMWare just comes up with (Oh No! Something has gone wrong) I attached the log file.

I have removed the latest kernel following some guides online, and it didnt help, the old one doesnt start anyway, same issue.
      Any clues ?

      @Wayne-Workman Thanks very much!
So what would you do with say 20 different models of computer, at best 2-3 of each type and plenty of unique models ?
      I don’t have to re-image often.
Also can it all be built from the same source image, install common software and then specialize from there ?

    • RE: Best guide for Windows 7client preparation (and 8/10)

@Jbob I have a high mix of machines. It needs to be a hardware independent image. Ill also be doing the same with Win8/10 and maybe XP.
Many are dell laptops, but also Dell desktops and some other brands.

This website is responding very slowly…

    • Best guide for Windows 7client preparation (and 8/10)

There are a few guides here and on the wiki and elsewhere for setting up a Win7 client. Some are for older FOG versions, some seem to be for recent ones but are tricky to follow etc (that might be just me).
Can the experts here please point me to the best/simplest one to start out with ? I seem to to spending a lot of time reading different guides that take different approaches. My time is limited and it would be great to get a bump in the right direction.

This one? (Which seems to start on page 1 and then continue from the last page backwards?)
      https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/365/windows-7-deployment-fog-sad2-driver-tool?page=1

      And some others…

I’m basically at the point of having a PC with Win7 just installed with all updates done and a couple of drivers.
I also have a VMWare VM 9in the same state, but I just read in one of the guides that you are supposed to get windows in Audit mode before the first boot after install… which means I have to start again ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated !

    • RE: Mounting File System Failed

After capturing images from multiple machines, it looks like this issue is due to an incompatible BIOS in these old Dell machines.
I guess this issue can be marked solved…
      Thanks for your help everyone

@george1421 As am I. This is a crappy old Inspiron 9400 that should really go in the bin because it is so slow, but Ill have to keep it until I get approval for a some newer (used) machines.
-Just tested an Inspiron 6400 from the same era (looks pretty much the same but 15") Same deal.
-Just tested a newer Inspiron 1720 and it works fine.

The BIOS versions have probably never been updated…not sure if its worth it, but I could do it for education sake.

    • RE: Mounting File System Failed

@george1421 No they are not the same, I do have another one the same as the problem one I think, Ill try that when I find it and its available. We have a high mix of different machines here, mostly Dell though.

Actually the first instance of FOG I got going (Thanks @Wayne-Workman ) DID work with this machine, and I never saw an instance of this problem. Not exactly sure what version it was, and I just deleted those VMs this morning šŸ˜‰

@Wayne-Workman I made the change to undionly.kkpxe still no worky

Updating to SVN 4367 didn’t help with this Dell Inspiron I have here. The second laptop I have here boots into FOG menu everytime.

    • RE: Mounting File System Failed

@george1421 Ok. So this isn’t contributing to my issues*?

Also excuse my ignorance, why should I add the reverse DNS lookup zone ? (what does it do for me practically?)

      Thanks !

*Its possible there is a compatibility issue with the notebook I was using to image. I grabbed another old Dell and it seems to work everytime. I swapped back and Dell1 didnt work with several attempts, back to Dell2 and It is working 100%.

      @george1421 Thanks.
My DHCP options use the IP of the fog server, so I’m not sure why that is the case then…

      OK thanks šŸ™‚

What is happening at this stage ?
to get undionly.kpxe tftp needs to have worked ? which means the option66/67 is working on the DHCP server
but now it seems to not be working…

    • RE: Mounting File System Failed

I did another capture/filter with ip.src==10.0.0.51 || ip.dst==10.0.0.51 for curiosity. This capture is from immediatly after the download of undionly.kpxe to when PXE gives up and boots the HDD.
