    • TFTP Open Timeout

Been running into a lot of issues getting fog up and working, im getting ever closer and keep running into issues.

I can get an IP address from the DHCP Server which is a win2k8 box. Option 66&67 are set correctly but im getting a TFTP Open timeout error.

Ive searched the forums and tried a few solutions from there but no joy.

I tried doing a reset on TFTP on the fog server box running

      sudo stop tftpd-hpa
      sudo start tftpd-hpa

but I get the following error - Unknown Job TFTP-hpa

does this mean TFTP isnt installed?

Ok, seemed to have got it working…sort of.

Seems there must of been an issue with the network adaptors or the install on the machine I was running Virtualbox on. I tried to uninstall virtual box and do a reinstall but it would hang when removing the network adaptors. Finally managed to get it to uninstall. Tried another re install but again it would hang on installing the network adaptors and kill my network. So now I can’t install virtual box on the server I wanted it on.

I’ve now installed Virtualbox on my laptop and started again from scratch and the windows VM now boots to FOG 🙂 whoop!

But I’m now getting the following error when I register the Host - see attached file.

The screen then changes and says its attempting to register the host but nothing happens further

Ok I tried another solution where by some people have been having issues PXE booting with windows so I made both a Mac and a Linux VM and set them to boot to their network cards.

The linux VM gave me the error FATAL: No Bootable medium found! System Halted

I have remote access enabled to these servers if anyone would be up for remote in and taking a look?

Actually, Now you say that. I let the WIN7 box boot using the PC-NET adaptor. Once windows logs in the network connection is down. Says the driver failed to install. Did a google around to find one and can’t for the life of me find one to get it working. Even Virtual box forums are just saying to use the Intel Adaptor but we all know that has issues with PXE booting.

If I use the intel adaptor the network status is fine. So looks like I potentially need to get this adaptor working on the PC-net, but can’t find a driver. 😕

[quote=“Uncle Frank, post: 42353, member: 28116”]The internet is full of similar kind of issues (not really a ‘FOG problem’):

      Thanks for this,

Ive come across these articles already, did what they said. It made no difference same problem 😕

      Hi Tom,

Could you explain that one please? I haven’t created an image yet to upload to FOG. Im trying to boot from the network card on the WIN7 VMbox to boot to the FOGserver so I can register the host on FOG to then take an Image of the WIN7 box to deploy to other machines.

      Hi Tom,

Running 1.2.0, The WIN 7 machine is set to boot to the network card first then the HDD.

The first message I get on the screen is - FATAL : Could not read from the boot medium! System Halted.
      Nothing else before it.

It then proceeds to boot to the HDD and boots into WIN 7.

    • Windows Wont PXE Boot

      Hi All,

I have setup the latest version of FOG on Ubuntu 12.04 as per the instructions on your setup guide.

I am running it in Virtualbox (latest version as of this post). Setup is fine and I can access the FOG server.
      Details as follows

Win2k8 Server (Not a VM) - Running DNS and DHCP option 66 & 67 setup as per guide - 172.28.8.1
      FOG server (virtual Box) -
      Static IP - 172.28.8.2
      DNS - 172.28.8.1
DHCP on server disabled, pointed at 172.28.8.1 in setup

I have now setup a WIN 7 machine in virtual box, syspreped it and installed the fog client services.
I changed the System to Network boot as I want to image this machine to the FOG server. The system boots and I get the following error

FATAL : Could not read from the boot medium! System Halted.

Both network adaptors on virtual box are set to bridged so that they can see the hardware 2k8 server for DHCP.

Any one got any ideas? Google search has given me a few results but none of the solutions have worked 😞
