• RE: Bitlocker Error after Image

Found a solution!

Long story short I took the laptop and installed Ubuntu. Then I installed Win 7 Enterprise, created a Fog image with this PC, and then used this to image the pc. Went to bitlocker it and it worked.

So what does this mean? Apparently I was not able to take a Win 7 Pro laptop, out of the box, install Win 7 Enterprise, and bitlocker it. Windows, for whatever reason, does not like an OS to OS change. I must not be getting a clean install of Win 7 Enterprise. And I did remember to format the partition(s).

Anyway, it took an unconventional approach to fix this problem.

• Bitlocker Error after Image

Here is the error I am receiving when I try to Bitlocker a PC, post image.

The BitLocker Drive Preparation Tool failed to export the BCD (Boot Configuration Data) Store.
You may need to manually prepare your drive for BitLocker.

I am about at my wits end with this error. I have never posted a question for technical assistance, so here it goes. I will do my best to provide all the information I can.

I recently created an image on our fog server for an HP Elitebook740 / 840. I can image a PC just fine, but the above error is what I receive when I try to bitlocker it. This is the first time we have used laptops with SSD drives. PC has 32 bit windows 7.

I have verified that a partition does get created.

Here is what I have tried:

1. Made sure the target drive is Active
–Disk Management:
–Right click on Computer and choose Manage.
–Under Disk Management, please check if the target drive is active.
If not, please right click on it and choose “Mark as Active”.

2. I tried the steps listed on Microsoft’s Site
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929834/en-us
These steps are not for Windows 7, but they have worked for some Win7 users, so I thought I would give it a try. No Luck.

3. Tried a “simpler” image.
I took an HP 740 and gave it a basic image of a Win7 OS and it’s drivers. I then created an image on the Fog server, and then imaged a pc with that image. I still get the same error as above. My rationale was that some application had messedup my ability to bitlocker.

4. Tried imaging an HP 740 with an image I create for an HP 8740. I can bitlocker this one, so something is not quite right with the image I created for the 740 / 840.

Could this be something with the way I am Sysprepping the PC?

Thank you for your assistance,
Mike
