@Wayne-Workman Well, sounds reasonable. This is also why i love FOG.
But i think i also forgot to mention the main problem, the server also has no access to the internet anymore. (Basically the system is kind of, also, being phased out, thats why [tho i would like to keep it]).

Well, tomorrow my vacation starts, for a few weeks. And ill dive in to lfs201. I guess at the end ill have a bit more idea what and how to handle it. And maybe google some general apache slowness troubleshooting or so. Not big issue anyway, so dont worry.

haha, man, sounds exactly as the thing i have done to the predecessor of this server (Alritis). Even still have somewhere the image on the external disc.

p.s. But you really dont wanna hear where and how this server works. So im not in a mood to bother figuring out to do it.
(In short. Its a vm. On a separate vlan. Oh, no, its not a vlan, its an non existing separate network of an ex-organisation. On a hypervisor with ourdated java interface… Need to install XP to get there -.-).

Hi there, i have here a somewhat not-so-much-up-to-date version (32) of FOG running. On not-so-much up-to-date Ubuntu version (10.04).
(Because im not so sure if the update will not break something, and atm have no meens to back this server up in any normal way).
So the interface have been somewhat slow-ish for a few month already.
Since i havent been using FOG so actively recentely i didnt mind.
But still i would actually like to fix it.
Anyone any ideas/info on how to troubleshoot the slowness of the interface please? Thank you.

Since i often Sysprep M$ Windoze and often image the ready images and sometimes over slightly different hardware.
Sometimes more for the sake of experiment. And sometimes it actually even works. Sometimes you have to add some drivers.
And also a few times i moved an HDD with my Linux system across different hardware. And it just worked.
But then i wonder how does actually Sysprep works. And/or how does the Installation process works on Linux/Windoze.
So i would like to study the process of what actually happens when the system is installed.
Like for example how different is the installation process on a hardware A to a hardware B.
Lets say as i see it every piece of hardware needs a certain driver/kernel module. And is it then so that when you install a certain set of the hardware is recognized and those (lets start with Linux) kernel modules are loaded and/or copied then to the hard disk to manage this hardware after installation as the part of the OS. But then how about when you put this HDD into another computer for example. How does comes that it mostly works?
For example when i last researched this subject in relation to Windoze a few years ago already i think. The thing was that as long as the HAL (processor architecture related?) was the same the system would boot at least and be mostly working. You might need to add/install some missing drivers and it would be mostly fine. (If you add some other hardware to an existing PC itsnt it nearly the same?)
But then i wonder how is the hardware detection is different between when you add hardware to an existing system and when you install the system or when you move the drive to other hardware.
Are there different set of kernel modules copied then you install the system on different harwares? or not?
I suppose i might start around the Anaconda working process.
But then what is Linuxes HAL alternative? And/or how is Sysprep different from the installation process?

I successfully imaged the previous XP image tho. On the same test PC.

p.s. I did notice via gui of the fog server that the XP image in question in the image folder is now 98gb instead of 35 that it should be.

I have pulled a WinXP updated image yesterday. And after that i have put some different Win7 installation on that test PC. First i was about to put it with FOG so i associated an Win7 image with the PC. But afterwards i just used one Clonezilla image from the external drive. To test around.
So today i need to add another change to the image that i pulled today. So i went to the FOG web interface and associated an XP image to that test PC. But forgot to change image type to WinXP instead of Win7. So when i tried to deploy the XP image it sayd that something was not right with the image. So i went and noticed that i forgot to change the Win7 image type on the test PC. So i changed it.
But in the end now i cant use the XP image anymore. When i try to image it almost starts, but then trows a view lines and didnt image and reboots. The imaging deploy task is then automatically removed.
Is there any way to fix this?

I have successfully installed Ubuntu desktop 10.04 LTS in a VMware ESX virtual machine. And then i installed latest FOG server on it. A view days ago. Also tested it and it works. Pulled and Deployed an image. Without sysprep. Just pull and push for the sake of testing. Which is good. [IMG]http://ubuntuforums.org/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif[/IMG]

I have also another Windows File-Server. And a shared FogImages folder there that i mounted in Ubuntu so that i could use it for images i pull. But it gives me the following error since i (with my collegue) have setup to automatically mount the share on Ubuntu.
Error “Fatal Error: Failed to mount NFS Volume.”

My collegue is a littlebit more expirienced Linux than i am. So for him it was question of minutes which for me could be hours. So he fast fixed it here.

What did we do:
we added fogpw text tile to the /etc/ folder. And then added this line to fstab in /etc/:
//FileserverIPADRESS/FogImages /media/fogimages cifs credentials=/etc/fogpw, defaults 0 0
and then renamed the images folder on the root to images.old and made a symbolic link to the /media/fogimages. I also have copyed the dev folder and everything from images.old to images new. Which is on the share now. So i can go to images folder (symbolic link) on the root of Ubuntu server and i land in the Windows share.

The share has the following perpisiions:
Share rights - everyone full controll
Security rights - Modify (for the user in fogpw file in the /etc/)

When fog is pxe booting this is what it prints:
Mounting File System … mount: FileserverIP:/images/dev failed, reason given by server: Permission denied.
mount: mounting FileServerIP:/images/dev/ on /images failed: Bad file descript
Done
Checking Mounted Filesystem …
An error has been detected!
Fatal Error: Failed to mount NFS Volume.
Computer will reboot in 1 minute.
