• Image Compression Association

It would be nice to have an option to associate different compression levels with either hosts, groups, or images. That way if/when you are needing to image a system that has crap for processing performance you can associate it with a lower compression level, allowing it to finish the task more quickly at the cost of disk space on the storage node. Yes, you can currently adjust the system wide compression level, but this effects every task running (that uses the compression obviously).

I am not sure on the feasibility of this, and ideally this wouldn’t be a long term issue since we should all be throwing systems with Atom (and similar) processors down a flight of stairs.

If possible I would recommend doing a basic wipe on that drive and reinstalling. For some reason it looks like some crap partitions are left over.
need2, this is a clean 0.33b install, but I updated it several times. I can do a fresh install if that is the issue.
Just to clarify, I was asking if this was an OEM Windows install you were imaging or a clean install you did yourself from an install medium.

      Have you…

      updated the kernel?

EDIT: Just to jump Tom to the punch, kernel updates are best done from this info:
update hosts set hostImage=‘0’ where hostImage=‘-1’;

Yes, that code. Amazing what at least basic MySQL skills can do for you. I need to buck up and force myself to learn it.
I updated to r1556, and now FOGMulticastManager works. However, I still cannot deploy because of:
* Performing Clean up (Stage 1)…Done

      • Performing Clean up (Stage 2)…error: /dev/sda2: No such file or directory
Any help please?
Is this a clean install or an OEM install?
Just an update on the above issues.

Seems to happen if Images table Field imageNFSGroupID is set to a storage Node that no longer exists.

Also we had a issue when listing all hosts. If the host table field hostImage has a value of -1 we get an error, may also error for the value 0.
I had this issue too, but its an easy fix. The hosts that have a negative value are the hosts that did not have an image assigned. You can either assign an image, or select the “Please select an option” option at the top of the drop down and hit ‘Update’. What you select doesn’t seem to matter, just so long as that setting gets touched. I did this manually since I have a relatively small hosts list still, but for larger lists I imagine someone with decent MySQL skills could make a quick query.

EDIT: Tom you glorious man thank you so much for adding the changelog…

If you make backups of your Images folder (just copy paste, or compress a copy and then move it) and your database, then you have everything you really need.

Okay, I could be off base here, but to me it seems like it could be the BIOS or the Fog Kernel. Have you tried updating to the latest one of Tom’s kernels available in his signature?

    • RE: Fog 0.33b edit PXE menu

You can edit the PXE menu through the GUI Web interface, through ‘Fog Configuration’ -> ‘PXE Boot Menu’ -> Advanced Configuration Options’. You should be able to add anything you need to the Fog boot menu through there.

As for the actual location of the file in 0.33 I’m no help there.

    • RE: How to change sentral DHCP server to work with FOG 0.33B

I think the best option for you would be to make a backup of you Images folder and your database, and then scrub out 0.32 completely. Then install 0.33 from scratch, import your database and images folders, and then do the database modifications laid out in the wiki. Finally, run the installer one more time, then and only then, log in to the web gui. The only thing that I ran into after that is the TFTP settings that needed correction and for any clients that did not have an image associated I needed to open each host and select an image or the top dropdown option for none.
