• RE: FOG 0.33 - What's coming?

Incorrect. I use KMS both for Windows 7 and Office 2010 and I do not have any problems with it. My network is over 250 machines from HP, Dell, Acer and Ipex. I have been using Fog and Windows 7 since January 2011 using 4 different types of base images and have not yet used sysprep. After connecting to domain I run a batch file that points the client to the kms server and authenticates and it works fine.

Sysprep is definately not a must on windows 7 domain machines as long as you have never connected the image to the domain.
If you ever use a KMS server on those machines you will still have problems. I was doing it the same way, and found out the GUID is likely the same on all the machines so they will not authenticate to the KMS server.

Sysprep is a MUST on windows 7 domain machines.

So I have to ask, if you’ve never used sysprep, how do you image the computers with a standard image (software/updates etc) without the image having the same name for everything?
Sorry about the delayed reply. I do not join the domain on my image at any time until after deployment. That way it gets a new unique machine SID on joining. Ive not had any issues with group policy this way and hence havent bothered with sysprep.

    • RE: Default User in Win7 for someone used to XP

David, that process does work but I beleive the folder name is just Default and its a hidden folder as well. Also if you need to lock down some settings abit more you can always run “gpedit.msc” on each computer but this would be fairly time consuming. In Windows 7 you can also set up a network printer IP as a local printer and it will be available to all users on that computer (much easier than copying to default user profile the XP way).
Without windows updates, i have no problem too. However with the SP1 and more of w7, i can’t create a new image (i received “****” at state “check disk”…
I apply SP1 as an offline installer (you also get an extra count to 4 re-arms total if you do this) and I also apply all windows updates to the image before uploading and its always worked with various Dell, HP and Acer laptops and desktops on my school network. I run checkdisk, ccleaner also and then defrag about 4 times before an upload image. I still run fogprep and dont have fog client installed and havent seen the issue you have mentioned at all. Hope that helps!
Very great job for the last versions.
Is the next version going to take care correctly Windows 7 one 64 bit(by avoiding sysprep and co)?
Otherwise I will be obliged to use a WDS…
I dont see any issues with Windows 7 64 bit. I have been using it since Jan 2010 with Fog .30 and now .32. I work with over 300 Windows 7 64 bit computers and I have never used sysprep. I dont have any issues with kms either I just make sure my image doesnt join the domain until after deployment.
