• Deploying too fast?

      Hello All,

I’m having a problem with my FOG server. What appears to be happening is the FOG server is pushing the image at speeds that claim 6.75 GiB/min and will get to 1% and the deployment will freeze. I can successfully image computers using the multicast function but I cannot image doing Unicast. I’ve tried this on multiple models of computers - HP Probook 4520, HP DC7800, HP DC7900, as well as different images - all of which have the same results.

I’m not even sure if the speed is what is causing the problem, it just seems very fast (too fast). I’ve tried swapping different kernals around and none of which have solved the problem.

I’m using version .32 and I’ve set up multiple fog servers in different districts and never have I seen this issue.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks.

    • RE: 2 problems
Monday Blues BUMP still trying to figure out these two issues. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Please try this for the hostname issue - try editing /etc/resolv.conf. At the end of the resolv.conf file (after the nameserver
entries), add the following (substituting your actual domain name—fully
      qualified):

      search yourdomain.name

Save the file, then your FOG server should be able to resolve the hostnames.

I’m not sure on your ClamAV issue, I’ve never run into any issues with it. Hope you resolve your issues.

    • RE: Booting from external
Hello people,

This might be a bit off the topic but i have a few questions,

I’m running a compeny, and since i have to get everything legal i would like to well sort of copy my computer to a external USB/ Harddrive, so i’m able to boot from that and download cracked versions of programs.

So my question is, is there anything that i can do to get like W7 on a USB and boot from that and install the programs without having anything on my local PC ?

      K.
So you just said you have to get everything legal, so why would you want to do the total opposite and download illegal cracked software?

    • RE: Can't Login Fog .32

This could be an issue with a content filter or firewall. I know that for my district, I had to configure the firewall to leave the fog server alone and also change the content filter and remove it from being monitored. I was experiencing similar issues with not being able to log in, hope that helps.

    • RE: Fog rejoining computer to AD that is already in AD
I have a minor problem. I can get fog to join computers to AD in an OU if they do not exist in that OU; however, if they exist in that OU, it gives me this error ( Error 2224 )

Once, I delete the computer from the OU in AD, and restart the fog service, it joins AD again and the OU just fine. I also noticed, that if I don’t assign an OU, I do not have this problem, it will join the domain again after a reimage…even if it is already in AD.

Has anyone else ran into this.
I use Fog to automate the entire process of joining AD after imaging. If the computer account already exists in AD, as long as you don’t specify a container, it will simply rejoin that computer to the AD it was previously located. If you however have a computer that was never in AD, you may specify a container to do so but just for ease of use and to avoid problems, I have them join the default “Computers” OU and just move them afterwards.

    • RE: Nfs mount - bad file descriptor / permission denied

You all should read this in regards to adding storage space to Fog.

      http://fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Adding_Storage_to_a_FOG_Server

Please note the sudo touch command, this should fix the permissions issue with given folder.

    • RE: FOG 0.32 - HP 6710b not working
How do I go about finding out which kernel I already have? Thanks again.
Depending on how old your machines are, and if I’m not mistaken the 6710’s are an older model, I would suggest downloading and installing the kitchen sink kernal. All the kernals can be downloaded from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeghost/files/Kernels/

When you download the kernal, it’ll use the latest one that you downloaded. You can have more than one kernal for machines to use, you just have to make sure you supply the argument to select that kernal via the host management interface. Hope that helps.

    • Multiple Hard Drives

      Greetings,

Here is my dilemma. I have a server with 5 HD’s total. I currently have the OS installed on the largest (150GB) and I have not yet mounted any other drives. Ideally, I would like to use all the hard drives to store images on, but for some reason, when I mount the drives, it causes my Ubuntu to fail on startup. I have followed the Youtube video that was posted by Chuck step by step as to not miss anything and no matter what, it fails. My question is this - is there a way that I can use all 5 HD’s and have fog see them all as one “big” hard drive instead of multiple drives. Secondly, I noticed that my images are no longer compressing when I upgraded to 0.32 from 0.29. Is this something that can be turned back on? As it stands, my images are now coming out to about 30GB a piece which is way larger than what they were before.

I sincerely appreciate any help I can get.

      Thanks,

    • Disk Information

      Hello All,

I recently lost my old fog server due to hardware failure and have just gotten an old server as a replacement. This server has a SCSI Array set up with 5 local HD’s. The problem is, after I mount the drives according to a few guides I’ve read, the disk information is not updating with the new storage space. Please see attached picture. I know I have close to 300GB of space ( I still have to mount another two drives yet), so not sure where the error is. I followed the guide and mounted the drives to /images/ ext 3 defaults 0 0. Any help would be appreciated.

      Thanks
