    • Ubuntu 12.04 server - using partimage quits with no error

Hey guys, i have a pretty anoying thing going on…

i have a Ubuntu 12.04 server running, i use xfs as the /image partition, i cleanly installed fog .32 no errors at all.

i can connect to tftp, vftp, i am able to mount /image in debug mode manually…

however when i try to save an image of my Linux Mint 12, machine with Multiple Partition Image (Single Disk)
it start all the way up into Partimage tool, it hangs for some secs, and then quits a 0%, and makes a 910byte file in the /image/dev folder.

i am using ect3 on the Linux Mint 12 i am trying to image… it all worked perfectly in Ubuntu 11.10, but in 12.04 it just does this?

is there a way to get an errorlog? i cant seem to find any? and partimage dont show any errors at all it just quits, after 910 bytes

    • RE: Linux Mint 12

there are a few notes i have taken, using the partimage program in Fog 0.32

The image must be ext2 or ext3
You can’t use extended partitions, only Logical
      swap got nothing special notes

but all partitions my come after each other, and not skip blocks between them, or else the hdd fails to restore proberly.

took some tries as i used some extended partitions first, they seem to not work at all in partimage.

i heard of some people trying to replace partimage with other tools, (but never tryed it myself), for better linux support, but as normal beings, i guess we just have to wait for fog 0.33

    • Fog is doing something wierd to my MBR

so i have 80 identical machines, the only difference on them is the order its plugged into the sata…
i made an image for a:
      Grub loader
Linux Mint 12 (1 partition, 1 hdd) using the Multiple Partition Image ( single Disk) image type.

the image works fine on the first 3 computerss, but somehow the deployment destroys the MBR on the rest of the computers, leaving me with i have to fix it manually with a live cd, and reinstalling grub on each of the machines…

why does fog do that, and can i fix it somehow?
