There is a BIOS update for the MiniX PCs that allows the PCs to be built from FOG 1.5.4 running on CentOS 7.5.2009.

I do not know the technicalities but upgrading from verion 6 to 8, was mentioned.

For the benefit of others, I had hoped that upgrading CentOS from 7.5.1804 to 7.9.2009 would add the network drivers for a MiniX PC with a RealTek network card but this was not to be.

We have thefore taken the hopefully working step of installing 1.5.10 from scratch on a new Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Hyper-V build.

It is hoped that this will work for us.

    • Issues with upgrading to FOG 1.5.10 from 1.5.4 on CentOS 7.5.1804

We are running FOG 1.5.4 on a CentOS 7.5.1804 core platform.

We have been using the FOG server, since 2018. Using an EOL linux distro is not an issue to us, as it is usually connected to an isolated internal network, excluding the outside world. I would rather not have to update the linux server.

As we are having issues with applying FOG builds to MiniX PCs, we’d thought that we would upgrade our FOG installation to the latest version.

We basically followed the instructions here: https://wiki.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php?title=Getting_FOG

The messages on screen had an issue with “Setting up MySQL user and database” with the “database password does not meet high security standards”. The installation routine updated - them. Fair enough.

When it came to “Backing up database” and “Updating Database”, the installer failed. Presumably because it was not using the new account name and password. No details are provided on the fault.

It referred to a log file (which annoyingly contains none of the content shown on the screen - not helpful) but the log file, seems to relate to other issues, such as downloading “repomd.xml” and “mariadb-server-5.5.60-1.el7_5.x86_64.rpm” from a mirror. e.g.

      http://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mirrors/centos/7.5.1804/extras/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden
      Trying other mirror.
      http://mirrors.coreix.net/centos/7.5.1804/extras/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404 - Not Found
      Trying other mirror.

This is replicated by all of the other 11 or so, mirrors.

Are these files not available on all mirrors? If not, why not?

      Presumably, the above is causing:
Error: No matching Packages to list
      …
      Error downloading packages:
1:mariadb-server-5.5.60-1.el7_5.x86_64: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
1:mariadb-libs-5.5.60-1.el7_5.x86_64: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
1:mariadb-5.5.60-1.el7_5.x86_64: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.

Is anyone able to help, with ensuring that these files are available, for the installer or have suggestions on how to resolve them?

      Visible contents on screen:

      Thank you for any assistance.
      Marcus.

I know that this is an old thread but please can a moderator link this to?

      https://forums.fogproject.org/topic/12838/change-the-default-images-location

I found the former by Google and this fixed my installation.

Please feel free to delete my comment. I wont be offended!

      Thanks.
