Has anyone been able to successfully build a “gold” image on VirtualBox then lay it on a baremetal machine? I can create successfully from a machine, to Fog, and back down, but from VB up and then down to baremetal doesn’t work. I did make sure its set to IDE.

Yeah, I think the audit mode “un-does” everything you customize it with. Not sure if I need to run that, or?

Ok, I finally got mine working, scrapped the whole “gold image” build from VirtualBox. When I did it baremetal - it worked. However, I can’t tell if my SAD2 install worked with the drivers, since I have network, ide, etc but have a few with the notorious yellow question mark for (base, and something else) Not sure if there’s a pause in the script to allow something else to finish or what. I know it’s always a work in progress, so maybe once I’ve figured it all out - for good, I can draft a nice step by step with pretty pictures.

Thanks ! This is great. Question - I’ve been building my “golden images” on VB for quite some time, but can never get those downloaded onto a “real” laptop without some error. Any luck on going from VM golden image to real hardware? _Thanks

Can you just mount the FreeNAS/Openfiler NAS using NFS?

I get to image and get stalls when applying the image. And, I have it it coming up “missing operating system”. All on the assumption I’m doing this correct with .32 and the latest kernel - and on VirtualBox w/ addon’s (for PXE concerns). I can image all day long, upload successful, but the drop is a pain…

Anyone have any luck with baremetal box with FOG and creating gold images in VB? I can create them all day long, but never get a successful drop onto a machine. Super frustrated after a week. It shouldn’t be this hard…

I’m with you Chris, lots of peacemeal bits all over. Hard to have a consensus on what works and what doesn’t. This is the part that’s a showstopper for opensource. Documentation. Always. Hard to sell something so awesome, if it takes the average good tech multiple hours to troubleshoot. /frustrated

For the life of me, I cannot figure out why these image drops keeping timing out on the second partition. I’ve even tried a single partition Win7 that I created, still no go. Too many days trying to sort this all out, has to be a better way…

Hey Guys, I got the same exact problem with a Dell E4300. Only difference I might have from you guys is that I did the partition trick on Win7_32b and did the 1 partition resize when building it. I see quite a few tutorials with bits and pieces all over the place. It’d be nice to have a nice write up, with EXACT instructions, STEP BY STEP, so that we could really get this running in a few hours. I’ve got days into it at this point! But, I will be that guy - if I get it working, to do that write-up that I am so anxious to find. I didn’t do any kernel swaps, either.
