• Set dhcp reservations

This should be simple. I have a totally, physically isolated network of machines. 1 fog server per environment. The fog server is the only DHCP server in the network. I want the fog server to be a normal DHCP server, which it should be already. I haven’t installed any extra software, and am trying to setup DHCP reservations.

I’ve edited the etc/dhcp/ dhcpd.conf, and at the end of it added the following text I found on the web, at the end of the file.

host Accountant {
hardware ethernet 00:1F:6A:21:71:3F;
fixed-address 10.0.0.101;
}
host Accountant2 {
hardware ethernet 00:1F:6A:21:71:4F;
fixed-address 10.0.0.102;
}
But it just hangs at the DHCP boot on a client.

Can I use the fog servers DHC server, or do I need to install dhcp3? I need 20 reservations in the fog server…

Can anyone help?

• GPT/ UEFI Fog 1.20 - Interesting one - Imaging an Entire ESXi server

This is an interesting one.

I need to image an ESXI server as a whole unit, VMs in it etc.

I know I have GPT and UEFI, I’ll happily turn off whatever I need to in the “bios” to get this working.

I did a brief test with windows 2012, imaged up, but found the image down went onto a the machines second disk, but I didn’t look into it, as this project took priority.

Everything’s brand new. I’ve built an ESXi 5.5 server, free version. 2 internal disks at 500Gb. I’m using Fog 1.2.0, umbuntu 14.04. the client has an UEFI bios, but I’ve set it to legacy. I can image up fine, image down fine, but I get “no boot record” on boot
I’ve attached a screen shot of the image details.

I’m not certain if it’s the ESXi or just a problem with a “normal” image with the Boot partition. If I’m honest I suspect the later.
I’ve attached the partition tables from both the original and imaged server, they seem fine.

I checked the flags and the imaged machine has it’s boot flag set.

Both the source and destination machines are UEFI, and have had the following steps done, as recommended. they don’t image unless you do apparently.

Under the ADVANCED tab
Under the CPU group:
Change ‘CPB Mode’ to DISABLED
Change ‘APM Master enable’ to DISABLED
Under the BOOT tab
Under the CSM (COMPATIBILITY SUPPORT MODULE) group:
Change ‘Boot Device Control’ to UEFI AND LEGACY OPROM
Change ‘Boot from Network Devices’ to LEGACY OPROM FIRST
Change ‘Boot from Storage Devices’ to BOTH, LEGACY OPROM FIRST
Change ‘Boot from PCIe/PCI Expansion Devices’ to LEGACY OPROM FIRST
Under the SECURE BOOT group:
Choose ‘Key Management’, select CLEAR SECURE BOOT KEYS
Save changes and exit.

I have imaged 2008 MBR using acronis and USB drives fine. not tested this with acronis, I need fog to work.

I have to create 10 images all slightly different. so I’m concerned about space.

Can anyone help me? I’d be very grateful.

Thanks

Julian

• RE: Imaging hangs just before upload

I fixed it!

My disks had some GPT partitions left over on it, although the machines were new,the supplier had installed windows 8 on them before I got them, without telling me!
Here’s the URL on how to fix it, http://fogproject.org/forum/threads/stuck-on-dev-sda.11105/
Good luck.

Exactly the same problem here Ubuntu 14.04 Fog 1.1.2 Asus A88XM+ motherboardwith on board Realtek Card. 2 sata drives, one with 100mb windows 2008 Partition, one blank.
Hangs at processing disk. Hit enter and it reboots.
