• RE: Computer wont boot from hard drive after PXE from FOG

when you updated to 1.2 I believe it updates the default kernel, there are some newer ones you can download them from the fog configuration tab, there is an option for downloading kernels.

downloading an additional PXE boot image, save it as a custom option bzimage###. then go to your system inventory and set the machine to use a custom boot loader, fog/kernel/bzimage###. Then make sure that you delete the pending task, so that it picks up the custom kernel when it creates the new task. Since your other systems are working fine with the current default it would be best to test a different kernel without overwriting the current one.

you can look here http://www.fogproject.org/wiki/index.php/WorkingDevices to see if your system is on the list and what kernels have been tested to work with it.

double check that the image type is set properly, after upgrading from .32 to 1.2 my existing win7 images changed to win 2000/win xp, and I had to manually set them back to Win 7. The issue might just be that simple.

Maybe its something from the migration process, I’m not really sure. maybe someone needs to take a look at that.

I’ve seen issues with some Dell laptops either because they are running an old bios, the E6410’s with bios rev A4 was recently an issue for me. Sometimes the system won’t load the pxe menu at all, and other times they just do not like to reboot.

In the fog configuration tab, to go fog settings, for the FOG_BOOT_EXIT_TYPE, there are three options try the grub or exit option as Tom Suggested. If your still having trouble try downloading an additional PXE boot image, save it as a custom option bzimage###. then go to your system inventory and set the machine to use a custom boot loader, fog/kernel/bzimage###. Then make sure that you delete the pending task, so that it picks up the custom kernel when it creates the new task.

    • RE: Dell OptiPlex 780 will not upload image

just to add on this, even though the screen is all noise, fog is still running, it is just not displaying properly because it doesn’t have video drivers for the system. If you do the quick image option and have that setup in fog, it will inventory the system and push the default image ( once you configure it in the web options).

    • RE: Securing Active Directory integration

I have not found a way to build the installer, but you could simply replace the hostnamechanger.dll file in your sysprep’d image from the first part of the tutorial after you generate the new hostnamechanger.dll. I have not had a chance to test this as of yet. If anyone has a moment please let me know how you make out.
