• RE: PXE Boot stopped working

I just tried a manual upload. I have been busy with something else and I wasn’t monitoring the progress. I thought it would have been done some time ago and the FOG server showed 99.85% complete. I looked at the client and it was displaying FOGFTP: login failed with user “fog” and incorrect password every few seconds.

I did not recognize the password it was attempting to use.

Where do I edit that password? Could it have something to do with the files I copied from trunk?

In /etc/php5/cli/php.ini the date.timezone field was commented out and no time zone was specified.

I’ll test it in a bit.

Does the America/New_York part have to be in quotes? It is in quotes in the other file.

Thanks again.

I have another question. I can’t seem successfully schedule a delayed task. The task never starts.

Should I open that in a new thread?

Thanks Tom.

OK, so I assume that the previous files were dynamic?

It look as though copying the files from trunk fixed the problem.

Can you tell me why?

How do I look at what’s being requested/failing?

Are you suggesting that I copy the undionly files from trunk to the Ubuntu machine?

Thanks

• PXE Boot stopped working

I need help troubleshooting why PXE boot is no longer working from client computers.

I installed FOG version 1.2.0 a few months ago. The OS is Ubuntu 10.04. I was seeing the PXE boot menu on machines with network boot as first priority. I successfully uploaded a number of images.

Something has changed since than and I no longer see the PXE boot menu when I start a client machine. I have installed all the suggested updates to Ubuntu.

Now at the end of the PXE boot sequence I get a message “/default.ipxe…no such file or directory”. The machine proceeds to start Windows.

On the FOG server I see that /tftpboot/default.ipxe exists.

Also, /etc/default/tftpd-hpa contains the line TFTP_DIRECTORY = “/tftpboot”

Can anyone offer ideas about how to diagnose the problem?

• RE: Scheduling Multiple Tasks
It will try running all tasks at the same time, thus failing to create one or the other that’s already been created.
Thanks Tom,

Is there a way to put the tasks in a queue?

Or, should I schedule the tasks at different times allowing enough time for the upload before scheduling the next task.

Thanks, Geoff

• Scheduling Multiple Tasks

Hello,

I posted this in another forum but got no replies so I’m giving it a shot here. Sorry for the cross post but I really need some help.

I want to set up a schedule to image multiple computers. Running 1.2.0.

If I schedule multiple tasks to start at the same time will they run sequentially?

Or, should I schedule the tasks at different times allowing enough time for the upload before scheduling the next task.

Thanks, Geoff

• Scheduling Multiple Tasks

Hello,

I want to set up a schedule to image multiple computers. Running 1.2.0.

[S]Can I image them as a group? Will the images upload sequentially?[/S] It looks as though this is not possible.

Or, if I schedule multiple tasks to start at the same time will they run sequentially?

Or, should I schedule the tasks at different times allowing enough time for the upload before scheduling the next task.

Thanks, Geoff

• RE: Saving Images to Removable Drives

Hi Tom,

Yes, when a drive is full I would like to remove it and replace it with another. When that is full I would repeat
the process.

Edit: I want to be able to arbitrarily use any one of the drives should I need to restore an image.

What I don’t understand is what steps I need to take. I thought I needed to partition, format, create a mount point, mount and create the .mntcheck file, etc. That is why I referred to the “Adding Storage to a FOG Server” from the Wiki.

I am very new to Linux and until I gain further understanding I do need some help.

Thanks,
Geoff

• Saving Images to Removable Drives

Hello,
I have FOG Server, 1.2.0, running on a machine with a removable hard drive dock.

I would like to use drives in caddies for image storage.

Does anyone have experience doing this? I would think the “location” would be the same for each drive as the dock is static. I assume that I must prepare each drive in a fashion similar to the instructions in “Adding Storage to a FOG Server”.

Is this correct? Are there any caveats?

Thanks,
Geoff

Thanks.

I decided to forgo the surface scan for now.

The multi-partition image is currently uploading.

I appreciate the help and thank you both for your time.

• RE: Bad Sectors and Failed Image Upload

I’m a bit confused about what you are recommending.

Should I run the surface scan? If so is there a way to view the results at a later time. I ran it on a smaller disk and the scan results were only visible for a few seconds. I will not necessarily be viewing the monitor when scan completes.

Can you clarify what you mean “THe command to “repair” bad-sectors is already embedded into FOG”

Thanks

OK. The WD Data Lifeguard extended test did not find any problems.

When I run the surface scan from Fog, can I see the results later? It will take a long time to run and I want to start it when I leave for the day.

I tried running smartctl using the debug option but I get a message “command not found”

Thanks

Running WD diagnostics now. Will follow up with surface scan.

• RE: Bad Sectors and Failed Image Upload

I don’t have enough space on the fog server to do that.

I have no reason to believe there is actually anything wrong with the HD on the problem machine. Is it possible the report is incorrect? Is there another way to test it other than Windows chkdsk to verify that there is an issue? It’s a WD 1TB enterprise drive only a few months old.

The image of another machine just completed successfully.
