• RE: XZ compression command line - init.xz

…i think i figured it out! after some googling, i added the CRC32 check and it seems to work normally. here is my whole command line:
xz -z -9 -C crc32 init
hope this helps others!

• XZ compression command line - init.xz

I’m trying to modify the Init Image on a new 1.0.0 installation, and trying to accomodate for the new XZ compression method. I managed to use the following command line to extract it successfully:
xz --decompress init.xz
and the following command line seems to successfully re-compress it:
xz --compress init
however when i try to PXE boot, i get an error that the XZ compression method used is not supported. can you tell me the correct way to extract/compress the new init.xz image in the 1.0.0 distribution?

here is my entire init-modifying script:
cd /var/www/fog/service/ipxe
xz --decompress init.xz
mkdir initmountdir
mount -o loop init initmountdir
nano initmountdir/usr/share/fog/lib/funcs.sh
cd /var/www/fog/service/ipxe
umount initmountdir/
rmdir initmountdir
xz --compress init
chown fog:www-data init.xz
echo “repacked, ready for client deployment”
• RE: Win 7 Speeds

i noticed some new dell laptops (e5520 and e6500) that were excruciatingly slow pulling images right out of the box. out of desperation, we applied the latest BIOS to each of them and the imaging speeds returned to normal. i hope this helps in your case
