• RE: Can't register Optiplex 5040- tsc: Fast TSC calibration failed

Registration. After the TSC message I get:

"unable to register host for the following reasons: ". No reason is given, it’s just blank. The machine will reach the point of “attempting to send inventory…” and the screen will scroll endlessly .

I just noticed there is another post about this a few below mine. Odd I didn’t find it when searching. I do not see a clear resolution in that post either however.

• Can't register Optiplex 5040- tsc: Fast TSC calibration failed

I can successfully register other hosts (Optiplex 380 so far) but when I try to register a Optiplex 5040 I get this error:

tsc: Fast TSC calibration failed

I believe I had a similar issue with Fog .32 a few years back (it’s been a while since I’ve implemented it). This is using Fog 1.12.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chuck

• RE: Cron style task not showing up in active tasks

Thanks.

Is the stGroupHostID related to which group the task is being run on?

I notice that two are set to stGroupHostID: 12 which is my All PCs group.

But one is 35 (I think because it is not linked to a group?)

How can I make said commands fit the current terminal window? They’re going off the screen and looking disoriented because there are so many columns. Sorry it’s been a while since I’ve used mysql…

Going to do some research.

I see in another thread blackout said it is a planned fix for 0.33, I can just wait until then…I don’t want to try to fix something and end up breaking my server 🙂

• Cron style task not showing up in active tasks

I had a thread about this on the old sourceforge forums I think (never resolved). After I setup a a cron style WOL task for a group of pcs the task never showed up in active tasks.

Someone told me that it would only show up while it was running.

My question is, say I want to modify said task. How can that be done?

• RE: Does FOG re-write the MBR when deploying images?

I have my Windows 7 images deploying as Multi and XP deploying as Single right now. For whatever reason when I first did a Windows7 image I was only able to get it to work properly as a Mutli Partition Image - Single Disk.

I may need to work in a MBR erase before imaging to appease those that be.

I’m sure I have more options at my disposal than I have the motivation to look into right now…

😕

• RE: Optiplex390 rebooting loop, can't do NIC as first boot option

Update on this,

If you modify your pxe boot menu passwords after doing this, it will overwrite /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default which breaks the chainloading.

To fix it just replace

LABEL fog.local
localboot 0
MENU DEFAULT
MENU LABEL Boot from hard disk
TEXT HELP
Boot from the local hard drive
If you are unsure, select this option.
ENDTEXT

with

LABEL fog.local
kernel chain.c32
append hd0
MENU DEFAULT
MENU LABEL Boot from hard disk
TEXT HELP
Boot from the local hard drive
If you are unsure, select this option.
ENDTEXT

In /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default
To re-fix it.

🙂

• RE: Getting WOL to work across WAN

Just an update on this…

I still do not have it working across the WAN I’m working on. I’m pretty sure it has to do with other equipment (from the ISP) being in the way at this point.

• Does FOG re-write the MBR when deploying images?

Just a quick question. The possibility of boot sector viruses was brought up to me and I was curious if FOG re-writes the MBR when it deploys images.

Thanks,
Chuck

• Getting WOL to work across WAN

Does anyone have any experience getting WOL packets to traverse cisco routers?

Here are two articles I have found on it:

http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/25642

https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/29944

Both make sense to me.

My router for the LAN where my fog server resides is 10.10.1.1
The router on a remote LAN where I’m testing is 10.10.3.1

So I have configured 10.10.1.1 with an ip helper-address of 10.10.3.255 and I have configured ip directed-broadcast on 10.10.3.1. I know these computers on the 10.10.3.1 subnet can talk to the fog server already. They can register and such because 10.10.3.1 has the ip helper for the dhcp server.

Is there something I missed? Is there more to ip directed-broadcast other than just entering the command on the router’s interface?

• After adding Scheduled Task nothing appears on the page

I added a cron style Wake-Up for a group of computers and the Scheduled Tasks page is coming up with nothing on it accept for the top image, no links on the left side.

Here is what I’m seeing:
http://i41.tinypic.com/24d4ro2.jpg

I’m pretty sure the task is there and working but it won’t display for me to re-configure it,. This worries me because I may need to have the computers off for a reason eventually! 🙂

Any help is greatly appreciated,

Chuck
