• RE: Infinite booting loop

Ah, that makes sense. the 990s are running 64 but, but the 755s I had no problem with were 32 bit.

By the way, what’s the default setting for the local disk, in graphic mode? Im trying to change it back, because it messed up my auto local disk boot. What’s the line for the local disk supposed to be by default again?

LABEL fog.local
localdisk0 <--------- I don’t think this was right, what was the original setting?
MENU DEFAULT
MENU LABEL Boot from hard disk
TEXT HELP
Boot from the local hard drive.
If you are unsure, select this option.

• RE: Infinite booting loop

had this issue with my Dell 990 lab too. Changed the settings as required, now the loop just stays on the menu screen, over and over again. So, still no go on that one. Only workaround is to not allow PXE boot as primary boot option, and swap it in the bios when we need to run tasks. a bit of a pain until a proper solution can be figured out.

• RE: Sysprep /audit question

Update - target machine took the image perfectly. blasting the lab now. 🙂

side question - if I configure the default profile during audit mode to have mapped network drives for shares on the server, will that be carried over into the image also? I suppose if not, we can always map a network drive in Group Policies in 2008 server.

Thanks again! Fog is awesome!

• RE: Sysprep /audit question

Thanks Andy, appreciate it!

By the way, I had a problem with getting my unattended.xml to be recognized in the sysprep commands. Eventually my research led me to the simplest answer ever - When saving your unattended.xml file, do NOT type the .xml part, or you will have unattended.xml.xml =D I couldnt figure out why sysprep wouldn’t find my unattended.xml file.

Currently uploading image, will be testing it out on target systems in a few. Here’s to hoping all goes perfect from here!

• Sysprep /audit question

I’ve been using the sysprep tutorial by Brian Jackson - http://brianleejackson.com/sysprep-a-windows-7-machine-–-start-to-finish-v2

Is there a way to enter audit mode after Windows 7 is already installed? I had made my image prior to knowing about sysprep, and have all the software and settings the way I want them to be for the image. It seems that I have an issue running sysprep from the admin account, it tells me that my unattend.xml file can’t be found, even though I put it in the right places, as per the tutorial.

On the last step of getting Fog to work successfully in our school, had made an image without sysprep, reimaged another Dell 755 with the image, and it goes into constant recovery mode. So apparently sysprep is required for a valid working image.

On a side note, Fogprep HAS to be run with the “run as administrator” option. Figured that out. 😃

• RE: PXE issue - file not found?

I ended up doing exactly that. Tested it out, my client machines are getting the info via PXE now.

Now I just have to figure out how to create the actual image package, but Im sure that’s in notes someplace online. Already have the software I want installed. I have general newbie questions that I’ll try to answer myself tomorrow.

• RE: PXE issue - file not found?

yeah I meant dnsmasq, not proxydhcp… Anyhow, Im reinstalling 12.04 from scratch, I’ve reconfigured the raid on the server to give me a 200 GB storage space on the fog server. So, once I can find a configuration that works to boot via PXE, I should be good to go. We’ve got quite a few computer labs to reimage over the summer, so here’s to hoping I can get it working smoothly!

• RE: PXE issue - file not found?

Hi Chad,

Yup, set those two options on the DHCP server.

Fog server is on Ubuntu 12.04 (hardware is a Dell poweredge server, 2.ghz processor), Fog software version is 0.32.

I went back and formatted the server, reinstalled Ubuntu, to undo some possible mistakes. Going to try the proxydhcp tool tomorrow.

• PXE issue - file not found?

Got Fog server up and running, set my DHCP settings as per the install notes. Can access fog server remotely with //ipaddress/fog

On the client side, enabled PXE booting in the bios. Booting to PXE gives an error “file not found” . DHCP server is a Win 2008 R2 server. I’ve tried changing the path for the ftproot folder.

The client installer on the windows machine gave me a write error, about not able to write to registry. Can this be the culprit?

• Fogprep, PXE and USB storage questions

Hi all, new to these forums. Installed the latest Ubu7ntu and latest Fog on a Dell server, everything server side seems well and all, having some issues on the Client side.

Firstly, installed the Fog client file, no problems. Ran the Fogprep, but it gave me an error, roughly to the effect of access to registry denied. Logged in as the administrator on this account. Not sure why its not going. Maybe try"run as administrator"?

On a separate area, booting to PXE errors out with “file not found” errors, and I’ve tried just about every website that had info on this, followed those steps to try and fix it. DHCP server is a Win 2008 R2 server, DHCP not configured on the fog server, obviously. I’ve tried everything from changing the path for the ftproot folder, and so on.

Lastly, I’m trying to use a 1 TB USB drive attached to the fog server as the storage space. I followed all the steps on redirecting the locations of the storage space, and now it says “no error, but disk…” on the fog admin home page.

Couple weeks till imagining needs to begin, while school’s out. Help is appreciated! Thanks!
